Cals/Ratios to low?

I've been doing the Zone thing for a few weeks (works aight for me) but I'm wondering if my cals are to low?

I'm 5"11' 225 and I've been eating 14 "Zone Blocks" a day which comes out to about 1274 calories a day. I'm eating 42 grams of Fat (378 cals), 98 Grams of protein (392 cals) and 126 grams of carbs (504 caks).

Not to mention I try to do 2 20 minute HIIT sessions a day (Punching a punching bag) which is burning right around 215 cals per session.

Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions of anything I need or should try to change?
 
Well I'd personally say yeah, way too low.

You should be going at 10-12x bodyweight.

Are you getting your bodyfat % tested? I would be thinking you're losing weight, but a lot of muscle. I think you may be at the point where you are losing weight on the scale, but your abs seem to never be coming in? If so, I'd say yeah, you're too low.

Also, there's no way you can tell how many calories you are burning off in a session unless you are tested in some type of room with facilities capable of measuring energy expenditure.

yeah id stop eating that lil as soon as possible, thats under your BMR and your BMR is what your body burns during the chemical reactions that take place within it- any movements you make in one day.
 
Well, I'm sitting pretty in that case then because i've been eating more than my 14 blocks. I just sat down today and calculated out how many calories and where those cals are coming from and it seemed waaay off. I used to be around 200lbs. I lost 100lbs on Atkins but lost to much muscle. Over about 8 months I've managed to put a lot back on (i haven't been watching my diet at all).

If anything I've put on a little muscle, at least in my biceps. It just seems like I'm not eating much. For example:
Today:

Balance bar before morning HITT session
Grilled Chicken Sandwich with mustard post workout
Lunch: 1 can of green beans, 2 grilled chicken strips, 1 cup of rice (cooked)

I'm not really hungry or anything, but I wouldn't mind more grub. The low carb thing was easy. It was like I could literally eat whatever the hell I wanted and I'd still lose weight.
 
dude if that's what you're eating u need some serious insight into sports nutrition!

Firstly
what's your training like? Do you jsut do HIIT or something else too?
your calories are way too low
your resting metabolic rate is around 2000 calories just for ur size asuming you're 25 years old and healthy
you're just gonna go into starvation mode and more than likely slow down your metabolism till it grinds to a halt. Im not surprised u have lost alot of muscle. How much muscle was organ tissue? u ever thought of that?

eat 6 meals a day (smaller meals)
if your goal is to be 200lbs you're gonna need imo

300g protein
200g carbs
70g Fat

That works out to approx 2630 calories

Obivously work up to this slowly


Your post workout meal sucks too
I dont know how hard u train but if you're going all out and totally working urself then you're gonna want a post workout shake of glucose+whey protein

trust me i took my cals to a ridiculously low number once upon a time and now im 5 years older and i've pretty much doubled if not tripled the amount of cals i eat, i'm still lean and more muscular and have less body fat and more energy, that's the main thing

Oh, I haven't come close to hitting that low of cals man. Yesterday was just the first time I calculated what the book said someone should be eating. I don't really know what so many of these guys are advocating low cals these days. I used to eat 2500 cals a day on Atkins and I still lost muscle mass :eek:

I've got everything bumped up now though. Thanks man 8-)
