My wife and I are trying to have kids and we have been trying for like 1 and 1/2 years. She has never used gear of any kind. She went to the Dr. and they ran a few test and her prolactin levels were high. The Dr. said it should be below 20 and it was 30. What should she do??? The Dr. said it might be a tumor on her pituitary gland. What do you all think???

Elevated prolactin levels

I just went through this with my daughter. Although her case is different because she is 28 and has polycystic ovary syndrome. She saw an endocrinologist for her PCOS and the only test that came out elvated was her prolactin level. The first time she tested it was 42. One should always have it retested because there are many things that can cause a temporary elevation in one's prolactin levels including stress. Any type of stimulus on the nipples including a shower can raise prolactin levels. Her second test was also elevated so they scheduled an MRI to rule out a pituitary tumor. We did alot of reseach about elevated prolactin levels and pituitary tumors. These types of tumors are generally beneign and can be treated with medication. As it turn out we got the results of the MRI this week and it was negative. In about 1/3 of the cases of high prolactin levels they are not able to identify a cause. High prolactin levels can cause a women not to ovulate which would definitely be a problem if you are trying to get pregnant. The doctor wanted to test my daughter 1 last time before putting her on medication for the elevated prolactin. As it turns out the 3rd time tested it was normal. Here are some web sites to help you gather information:

Or do a google search for elevated prolactin levels
