Wife & I Disagree... Who's Right???

My wife just got off the treadmill after a 60 minute session. I had surprised her with a 6 egg white/sprinkled cheese omlet. She handed it back to me and said I'm supposed to wait an hour before eating, but thanks. I told her that was wrong! While the omlet was getting cold, I sat at my desktop and she on her laptop and we were racing to find out how long after morning cadrio do you wait until you can eat your first meal of the day. Neither of us could find a good answer. I thought you were supposed to eat within a 5 minutes of finsihing a fasting cardio workout. I read that soemwhere many years ago. I've always followed the rule to eat after cardio and take in tons of protein after training. Who is right? Or better yet what is right and why? Thanks Guys!

hmmm.. I always wait an hour bc I have heard that your body will continue to burn cals if it is not given *new fuel.

don't have a source tho.

if its protein/fat you could have it after, some choose to wait 20 to 30 minutes. was it steady state cardio or HIIT? if it was HIIT i would eat that meal right after and my next pro/carb meal would come 75 minutes later. i wouldnt do HIIT in the morning though

She's probably right if she doesn't care about saving muscle. We eat mainly because we want to remain in the most anabolic state possible.

whey protein approximately 40-50g and 1 banana or 1 scoop gatorade powder taken within 30 minutes after my last set.

it's what i have been taught, it's what i've done for for the past 6 years, it's what works for me.

this is the correct response

I've always waited after straight Cardio because your body will continue to burn cals. But after a lift session I eat immediately after. Gota feed the beast!

Depends on your goals.
If someone is doing cardio for health benifits other then weight loss ,eat up.
If someone does not care about muscle and wants to keep burning fat in a catabolic state then wait .

Eat to burn in my mentality .The more lean muscle you have you burn fat 24 hours a day.
Id rather have muscle in a anabolic state burning muscle all day long then be in a catabolic burning fat AND muscle

^^ yeah

I'd go with the latest research, that says AM cardio on an empty stomach exceept for leucine and some glutamine (will trick the body into not going catabolic and wont impair fat burning), and then fast protein (like whey).

on the carb question, latest studies say unless you overdo it, fast-breaking carbs in the AM will go towrads replenishing liver glycogen. post-workout carbs will go towards replacing muscle glycogen. so you got a 2-fer here and can get away with (and need) carbs post cardio

rule of thumb:

1) if doing cardio wait as long as possible
so you can burn fat well after cardio is over

2)after Lifting east something pretty soon after a workout

i eat WHILE doing cardio!!!! not cause i have a fast motabolizism... i do it cause i'm fat!!! fatties FTMFW!!!

Thats real funny! Cause I do screw her every night like a rock star. I even stand up after the 30 min cardio session and watch myself in the mirror as I continue to sweat and gloat at the ropes in my shoulders and quads. That shit makes daddy happy. Thanks for all the input. I love you guys.... Never a dull moment here....

good thread. interesting as i just finished my am cardio and am thinking how long to wait to go eat my eggs and grapefruit juice.

Yeah! At first I thought that was a little overboard, but.... I honestly believe we're here for the same reason.... Learn, grow, and most important help one another.... I try like hell, not too ever take anything personal. My wife is cool and would probably laugh at the post. Hopefully, our friend was trying to create a little humor, Its all good. Back to the post and what I've learned......

She is right. There is always a first time.... HEHE Overall research and input has led me to the conclusion that if one is trying to lose water and fat.... then you should wait up to, but not exceeed 90 minutes before taking in your first meal. Without getting techincal. the body will continue to literally eat it's own fat for 90 minutes after cardio. Also, read that four weeks out from a target date, that 2 a days are awesome and the evening session only needs to consist of 18 minutes in the "fat burning zone" meaning 25 minutes is fine and once again the body is burning fat for a extended period of time. For me my heart rate needs to be about 130-140. Hope this post helps others. If any of you find other helpful information that supports or contradicts this... then please post.

waiting 90 minutes is bad advice. your body will eat muscle and cortisol levels will rise. never heard that before. eating right after your done, a protein/fat meal, will not stop fat burning, will prevent catabolism, and keep cortisol levels in check.

The research is not conclusive as everyone is so different, however, I think for the majority of people, they only burn calories while doing cardio, and not for that much longer after.

It is different with weights, as your metabolic rate remains elevated long after you finish your last set.

dude you should know.......whenever disagreeing with a chick....ifyou have a dick, it means your right no matter what..lol

it doesn't matter. by now you KNOW this: "feminine logic is a contradiction of terms"

Eat immediately after IMO...especially after morning cardio. I usually make sure it is a shake with protein powder and whole eggs.(On a keto diet).

+1

depends if your going for cutting and burning or bulking and saving muscle.

also what you eat depends.

I'm not looking to loose an ounce of muscle and right now don't care much about cutting so I'd eat.

When I start to cut I'll wait but never to long. 30-45 mins but thats right after the sauna anyhow ... (no need to get into the pros and cons of the sauna here thought, it's been killed. if you want to talk about it PM)
