why do i get dizzy and sick when i lift?

B.S.C.

I have been lifting weights on and off for about 6 years. For about the past 2 months I have really been doing it full force, never missing a day, and sticking to a much better diet. Right now I am doing a very, very basic workout routine just to get back into the swing of things. I only get sick and dizzy on my upper body workout. My upper body workout is as follows (for now).

flat b/p
flat dumbbell flyes
bent over barbell rows
overhead barbell press
dumbbell rows
overhead tricep extensions
preacher curls
stomach crunches
* every excercise is 3 sets of 8-10 reps. with moderate weight.
I do upper body 3 days per week/every other day/and the same for lower body.

I start to get really queezy and dizzy about right after the dumbbell rows, and sometimes I have to sit down for 5 minutes, because I feel like I am going to die. In all my years of playing sports and working out, I have never felt like this......does anybody have any ideas what this could be? I take a multi-vitamin 2 times a day, and i drink 1-2 gallons of water per day.
Thanks for any input or help.

welp can only guess heres some possibilities.

Pace your breathing, not breathing and breathing too heavily when its not needed can cause light headedness. I was trying to rev myself up for some dumbbell shrugs, I was kneeling down getting my grip set good for a while, breathing hard trying to super oxegenate my self or something :) when I stood up vision dimmed lost all sensation oddly I was still shrugging away and the only way I would have known was because I could still see the mirror that I was by, though I had tunnel vision, as I continued though I came out of the state odd shit.

Bent of rows ect.. often make people dizzy because the change in elevation of the head while doing physical activities messes with the brains blood pressure.

Make sure you are drinking enough. While at the gym I can't stop drinking. You said you've upped the intensity your body heat should be up higher and as a result you should be losing water faster during that time to try to bring it down.

Honestly I feel its most likely the blood/brain pressure. Bent over dumbbell rows used to make me feel like I had tos it down after sometimes it was just because they seemed to wind me for no good reason no longer is it the case now.

Just make sure not to stop breathing (I find on squats I only breathe at the top of the reps usually specially if its a hard rep gotta work on that) and make sure not to over breathe because its like self induced hyperventilation.

Thanks alot for the help! I didn't expect such a quick reply. I will definately concentrate more on my breathing.

I don't lift every day, basically I do upper body mon.wed.fri. and lower body tues.thurs.sat.
keep in mind that I'm not on a very strenuous program right now. After I change the routine, I will be doing one muscle group per week. For now I just figured that it would be a good idea to stick to a basic program for about 3 months, and then change to a more advanced routine. If you think that this is a bad idea, please let me know. Thanks alot for the help.

I think its definitely a positioning thing. when i do bent over DB rows or T-bar row, i get dizzy when i am done also. Its just that you arent getting enough air. Its no big deal. If it happens when you are not in the gym or on every exercize i would start getting worried, but for now i think its nothing to worry about.

I would switch your routine ASAP. True, as a rule of thumb, it's good to stick to a routine for a while before changing it, but a bad routine is a bad routine.

excessive lactic acid levels in your blood causing nausea

dizziness caused by lack of oxygen and pressure imbalance in your ear. ie, not breathing properly. i get it all the time on leg day. it feels like you have to pop your ear.

Exactly
