Why are so many people affraid of squats?

because squats require too much work and because there embarassed to do lesser weights ...everyone wants to be the badass that can legpress 200-300 pounds.

and because people believe squats make you knees weak -BULLSHIT.

i dont squat free weight, but thats because the weight on back just hurts really bad and will live me hurting all week. I fucked my upper back up a few years ago, so thats what is stopping me. I can deadlift no problem though. too bad:(

I used to never do squats...got really lean and muscular but legs weren't....fortunately they weren't chicken legs though due to playing soccer for 8 years.

I do them now and it's weird b/c my max is around 375-385....yet on leg press machines I can stack 900lbs on them for reps.

Concerning the leg press, you have to remember its inclined at about a 30 degree angle, so you are only having to push against 50% of the weight. Also, you aren't having to lift your body up with you legs so that shaves another 100-200 lbs off.

So the equivalent of squatting 315, would be 2X315 plus another 200 lbs on the leg press. Which comes out to 830lbs.

um.....cosine of 30 is .866

and cosine of 45 is .707

the cosine of 60degrees is one half but i dont think i've ever seen a leg press on that much of an incline.

the ones at the gyms i work at and the gym i work otu at are probaby between 30-45 degrees

and most sleds vary from 45 lbs to 90 lbs just on their own.

i'm nto saying squats aren't great but jsut clearing thigns up

If you aren't doing squats, you're just half assing the leg workout! I sometimes do front squats just to add some variety, but squats and deads should always be in your workouts PERIOD!

i was just doing that calculation in my head until i scrolled down. LOL.

damn you for making me remember physics!!! :D

i think the average person out there is looking for big arms, chest, and abs...about 5 ppl do squats at the gym i go to and this is happening everywhere.

also, ppl are stubborn and think they know it all...the other day i was talking to some dood at my gym about good back exercises and I was raving about barbell rows and he said he doesnt do em cuz there stressful on his lower back, it was about this time i told i was losing my pump and it was nice talking to ya. I mean come on now!

peace
