Backlash, you have to use sin not cosine when doing the calculation. Its an inclined plane problem, and i've done THOUSANDS of them. The sin of 30 is .5
You can use cosine, however you would need to subract the angle of the plane from 90 degrees. cos (90-30)= Cos (60)=.5
The reason for this lies in the geomety of the problem. If anyone has taken physics lately, they can back me up on this.
