Why are so many people affraid of squats?

got buried under 365 today.......

gf helped me strip the weight and i cleaned it back to the pins.......

put the 3 plates back on.......

fuck the extra 25s..........

less than a minute later......

5 reps rock bottom with 315 cause i was pissed.......

it gave me a new love for squats

Mid football season...love squats like u wouldn't believe...

PB- 440 for 2...one of those was a little suspect on parallel though.

I avoid squats for one reason and one reason only....

.... you need good knees to squat.

And I have terrible knees. Well, one terrible knee. I've seriously damaged the ligaments of cartilage on the lateral side of my right knee (this was back in May) and still can't bend my knee under a load. I can't even do a single squat without weight.... when I try, I crumble and end up in a heap on the floor. I've had ultrasounds and x-rays and ongoing physio, and it's gotten a little bit better.... but still bad enough to keep me immobilised some days.

That's why. It pisses me off too, because I do enjoy squats and deadlifts.... well, not ENJOY.... but kinda.... you all know what I mean. But I can't do either now, and no other leg exercises either.

So that's a bitch.

I used to be an all upper body guy. After I started doing heavy squats and deadlifts I made gains like never before. Plus my upper body was getting to heavy for my back to handle to I had to start doing legs. The most common excuses I hear are squats are bad for your back and knees, or I dont care about how big my legs are, I just want big arms.

I loooooove squats.

reasons:
1) My ego. I can shift more weight doing squats than anything else other than DL.
2) Sense of achievement when I've gotten the form right. I like technical things. Guess it's all the martial arts.
3) Thinking of what a nice ass I'll have from doing these a lot.
4) I wanna be a powerlifter!
5) They give me a great intense workout. I like intensity in my workout, makes me feel good, releases the endorphins. If I'm not sweating hard during my workout I kinda wonder what I'm doing in the gym.
6) they WORK. Boy do they work for increasing strength.

i just feel so powered squatting with that over 200 bills bar just sitting on your shoulders and you just rip it off like its nothing everyone in my gym thinks im crazy or on gear.

The biggest excuse I hear is, "I don't want my waist or ass to grow!" So, they opt out for the Leg Press, Hacks, and Leg Extensions. Most wind up with decent leg development, but could be ALOT better if they would squat.

This is a good point. I like to squat for these following reasons:

1. Squats build incredible hip strength.
2. Squats are a non-replaceable explosive movement.
3. Squats develop flexibility.
4. Squats build muscle throughout the entire body.
5. Squats turn stick legs into tree trunks.
6. Squats strengthen ligaments and tendons.
7. Squats increase the metabolism.
8. Squats help release hormones
9. Squats provide cardiovascular benefits
10. Squats make you work, they are challenging.

Just think, all you need is a power rack and an olympic barbell with some plates and you are set.
