Why are so many people affraid of squats?

My bench is higher than my squat ...

I used to be the same way. When I signed up at Gold's Gym, I was sick and tired of having small weak legs. Finally, I got the courage to enter the cage and put some plates on the bar. I made it a priority to perform squats no matter what. Just throw away the fear and forget about what everyone else is thinking. These are your legs, so do something with them. If you need to perform 8 sets of squats. . . then so be it. After 7 years of training I went from performing 115lbs squats, to perfoming reps with 405lbs. This can happen with anyone who is willing to put forth the effort. Think about this. . . Good luck!!

my squat sucks

My guess is Robert, is that your squat does not suck at all. You probably feel it does compared to other folks on this board, but some of these folks have been training for many years. I bet you squat much better than most of your gym's members!

Squats are great! I find they are killer for the entire body, just as ya said.

I think people generally don't do squats for one simple reason, they are pussy assed posers who would rather do 3500 rep sets of preacher curls while wearing a wife beater to show off their 11.5" guns, as opposed to doing some real work and building some real tissue. For the rest of us, squats are great ;-)

It's consider an ancient excersie my most these days, most of the squats I see aren't even close to parallel, half or quater movments at best. It's a core exercise, as well as deadlifts, and front squats. I couldn't imagine not doing them.

at ball tryouts today a guy said that he doesnt do them because they tare ligaments in the knees.

No flame intended here, but I'm calling bullshit on that theory. I tore my ACL last year and most of the muscular rehab squats. I believe if squats are done correctly their is minimal danger, but if form is poor and/or if too much weight is used that's when things can br torn.
