The power of chalk...

This post is for those who have never used chalk and may rely on straps to do your work.

I never thought chalk would every really do anything for my lifts, kind of a gimmick of sorts except for an elite few on the edge. Never used gloves but I have been dependant on straps for a long time. I had dropped the belt, but I knew down inside I needed to loose the training wheels. However, I would hold out as long as could but the grip would always blow out and I would fall back to straps to finish the workout. Enter chalk, how could something so simple work so well? IT'S EASIER! I can't begin to explain how much better the workouts are.

Also it provides a great mental focus and routine. Chalk up, mouth gaurd in and lift.

Get some chalk.

I can't lift without chalk anymore. I tend to make a huge mess though, but that is because I am a sloppy bastard. The difference really is night and day, especially if you lift somewhere where they don't clean the bars very well.

Neither does mine! But I use it anyways. Just get a refillable chalk sock from a climbing/outdoor store or just use an old sock of your own, fill it with chalk and chuck it in a big freezer bag. You can rub it on your hands inside the bag and make virtually no mess. Now getting it all over the plates and the bars is a different story :D

My school gym doesnt really allow chalk, but the place where I deadlift is out of sight from the attendent's desk, so no one knows.

My gym at home even provides the chalk!:D

i start to struggle with my grip on deads arounf 4 plates(405) but can hit 550lbs for reps with chalk, the difference really is night and day

I never used chalk until yesterday...and i will never use a strap again...not even for my noise makin' 600 pound shrugs on the hammer strangth machine....

word, chalk is awesome. When i use it, i feel so much more connected with the bar, like it is an extension of my body.....yup, a long stiff extension of my body. But my gym doesn't allow it, and they are strict about that kind of stuff. One time they kicked me out for wearing flip flops, like i was gonna hurt myself. I got all pissed off, went hom, got shoes, came back, and had a killer workout.

I saw the remnants of chalk on the bar tonight back where I do deads. I was stupified! I never ever saw anyone using it before in my gym.
