The Correct Way To Carb Cycle?

atasr5 said:
I am having trouble understanding all these things on carbs, no carb, good carbs and starchy carbs. I don't know anything about carb cycling and I'm only 15 weeks out of my first comp. What is my trainer not telling me?????

What is your comp? Does your trainer do nutrition & contest prep too?

ASK!

Also check out the "So you want to compete" sticky at the top and also do lots of your own reading - if you Google on "contest prep" and try to include more specifically what sort of contest prep .. e.g. figure or whatever you can find more articles. Note that there is no "one way" to prep for a show. There are some general tools like carb cycling that can be used, but there is no exact or "right" way to do it. A GOOD trainer will tell you that but also watch you day to day as you approach the show date and make tweaks or what we call "dialing in" your diet & training to meet YOUR progress, goals and needs. IF you find info that you aren't clear on how it works or where it might fit into your prep ASK YOUR TRAINER. That's what they are there for.

Good Luck with your comp :rose:

undefinedI will be entering a physique comp. My trainer says she knows what she is doing, but I'm starting to feel that I'm not getting everything I need to know, but don't know myself what I need as I am new to this and don't understand all the terms or what I should be taking at this time. My trainer will be putting me on a pre-contest diet in two weeks and has asked me to get some glutamine and some hydroxycut.

Enjoy it! Competition is a rush! Just remember that you are putting your time in now and by the time you are on stage, all you need to do is enjoy it! The one thing I can tell you to try to keep under control is the perpetual roller coaster ride of panic while you are in prep waiting for the weight to come off, etc. Just keep focused & look at the long term because 15 weeks can be really long and really short all at the same time. The thing to knwo is that you will see slow changes up until your last 2-3 weeks -- then you will start seeing *dramatic* changes! It is so exciting to see that.

Just make sure your trainer is reviewing where you are on a very regular basis and making tweaks as you go. He/she can't always predict exactly when things will start happening, but they should be paying attention & adjusting the whole time.

If you start getting frustrated, ask questions, and please know that you can post up HERE ANY TIME! Just if you need to vent or unload or have a panic moment or a victory moment!

:)

Hey girl!

You might not NEED much! Everybody's contest prep is different. If you're not on a contest diet, yet, your trainer still has time to tell you about it. You are still 15 weeks from show. Most people do not start carb cycling until about 4 to 6 weeks out from show. You have plenty of time. I will tell you, after 7 shows and knowing what I know about contest prep...you want to change the LEAST amount of whatever you are doing (to lose weight and get in shape for a show) in the beginning. Do not exhaust all of your resources by week 12 (meaning 12 weeks to go). Save something for the end. Not to mention, in 9 weeks you'll be on here begging everybody for a carb wondering why you wanted lose them in the first place.haha.... ;)
