Speed Squats, high band tension, 5-1-02

b fold the truth

Elite Strongman
Platinum
Got out of class early today so I had a few extra minutes to prepare for my workout. Tried to eat a little extra food and eat it a little extra early too. High band tension and lots of food just don't mix...lol.

This is my last week of high band tension box squats for about 3-4 weeks. I really feel explosive throughout the movement...

Box Squats
275+heavy&med choked bands + light bands x 2 x 5 sets
45 sec rest between sets
...decided to cut the volume from 8 sets back to 5 sets because of the possibility of overtraining this close to a contest...

Pull Throughs
light band x 20 x 4 sets

Band Ham Curls
mini band x 20 x 2 sets each leg (10 straight, 5 inwards, 5 outwards)

Rev Hypers
BW x 10 x 3 sets

Standing Calf Raises
BW x 20 x 3 sets

That was it...took about 30-35 minutes total. It takes a while to set up my squat racks as well as to take them down...my buddy comes out about 20 minutes after I am done to do his box squats too.

I made the mistake of keeping my head down on a few of these reps...and felt it in my neck greatly. I MUST improve my form on these in order to get stronger!!!

The icy hot really helps...I have been putting a little on each knee, elbow, bic tendon, shoulder, lower back just to help me get each joint warmed up. It really gets me warm fast...lol

If you go to the Powerlifting board...you can see my pre-contest program...any advice is more than welcome...

Here are a few pics...

My squatting PIT...

Have quite a bit of band tension here...probably at or near the 400lb range in tension...

Hannibal...what do you think???

When I would Goodmorning/squat the weight up from a bottom position off of the barrels...not fun I might add...the high band tension would pull me backwards a few steps...fun fun fun

Beginning of the band pull through...

I did a few other sets with a closer stance, toes straight ahead, deep...and they felt really good on my hams and glutes...really work the groin area...

I think that these may help my tire flip...because I am leaning fwd and exploding up. This would probably be a good exercise for sprinters, football players, tennis players...etc...

Doing the band curls inwards...really feel different...in a good way though...

Doing the band curls outward...these really fry my hams. You can see the "strings" really working on these. There are two little lines ("strings"...lol) under my leg...these band curls really hit them hard. It is constant tension too...and as my hamstring gets in a better leverage position...the tension becomes greater.

My calves even look decent in this pic...haha

Did I mention that it was hot today?

Thanks guys...these workouts really increase my appetite...

The use of the bands really tax my body a lot...but in a good way. Every inch of the movement is a fight just to do the entire exercise, top to bottom...

I have been reading your posts for a while and all I can say is:Impressive stuff!

In spite of your rustic and home made equipment you manage to squeze in , all kind of exercises in order to prepare for your main goal-Strongest Man Contest-, whereas guys who might have access to more fancier and snazzier equipment , do not get the same results as they do not put the same intensity, the same war-face( or should I say gym-face) as you do in your workouts.
You manage to improvise and home-made in a fairly small place, an interesting array- I like those huge bins- of gym equipment. One more proof the human ingeniosity has no boundaries .

Moral: With discipline, motivation, perseverence and fierce determination you can achieve your goal , notwithstanding the lack of fancier equipment.

Once again, thumbs up and good luck in your endeavor to be one of the best as you surely set a positive example for many of us!
