Rolling During Shrugs

2ton,

Up and down. No science to it. Keep your shoulder blades together in a squeeze. Up and down. No roll. I don't give a shit who tells you. The movement is Up and down.

Dr. Lord layed out the science and I am laying out the realness. The rest of the fellas spelled it out as well.

Crap, I did not know that. Glad I came across this post. While we are on the topic is it better to keep your chin down or just look straight ahead for better form?

i dont appreciate 2tons rudeness as much as anyone on this board and im not on his side for this. no one has given an answer yet maybe no one knows the scientific answer why this is bad, so just go with it and dont take any chances.

Rolling the shoulders will do nothing to enchance the effectiveness of this exercise. Here is why it is bad.

1. It is possible to pinch nerves in the upper back.

2. This motion puts the rotator cuffs in a precarius position.

3. Rolling does nothing to emphasize the traps.

If you shrug your traps towards the ears and hold for a 2 count, I guarantee that you will hit the traps effectively. I wish you luck in your training.

Hoss, have you everlifted in the gym??? The you will know that the traps are vertical moversof the humerus scapula and even the cranium. Hence rolling will not improve the effect fo shrugs. Rolling will help your rhomboids to contract your scapulas and very minumally delts. On the rotator cuff deal basically the 'cuff' was meant to rotate your shoulder, byt locking the position they are in and forcing them in a non naturall alignmentn will fuck them up...

P.S. have some class on the board you asked a question, so get ready to hear all types of responses. You might not agree with them but give the other membes some respect, at least they botheredto help you out....

looks to me like the q was answered pretty well.

Swain got it right "1. It is possible to pinch nerves in the upper back.
I did this MANY years ago, I shrugged UP then at the top rolled my shoulders back then... ON THE WAY DOWN from that position. THE SHARPEST PAIN YOU`VE EVER FELT hit me in my upper back. The weight dropped to the floor and I`ve never been healthy since then.

But the answer to HOSS`S question- I don`t know Why they`re bad.

Hoss.... for the record, I think you were perfectly justified in getting a bit pissed off. You asked a very specific question and the first two answers would've been better left off.... I would've reacted the same way. Had b fold been an unpopular newbie, the rest of the forum wouldn't haven ganged up on you like that.

No disrespect to anyone else, but.... geez.

I disagree. I don't care if B-Fold is the man he is or a hoodlum without any sense to his words. I still would have posted. Sorry DB, not a direct hit on you. Just a note to let you know that I would still be here and write what I write despite the figure of another person coming into play.

I must say I'm with Hoss on this ie. getting answers for the questions you ask. I see this way too much on the anabolic board and almost all the boards that I frequent (Except AF which is really good).

While Bfold is a great help here and also a great athlete THIS TIME his answer, while trying to be helpful, was not called for. I mean Hoss asked a very simple question and he got nonsense replies at first. Yes, maybe he himself reacted wrong and had an attitude but that is not the point here.
