Question about calories and protein.

Hungry

Okay, I am trying to bulk up a little more... hoping maybe to get around 215-220 lb. by the end of the year. I am currently 21, 6'3, and 205lb. I am consuming 2 NLarge shakes a day, which add up to around 1250 calories each... (with 2 cups milk and 2 scoops PB)...taking these 2 shakes, and 3 meals a day... is it okay to have the 2500 calories coming from the shakes.. or should I get more calories from 'real' foods? I know its better to get your protein from real foods... such as tuna and chicken, does this apply to calories as well? I am getting around 275 g of protein and 4000-4500 calories per day. Is this a decent plan to follow? Thanks for anyones input! :fro:

Well, honestly, NLarge isn't your best choice. Not a huge fan of weight gainers in general. The ingredients aren't the best and the protein isn't high quality. There is a lot of sugar/processed crap in it. That being said, as you're bulking, it's *okay* to have (as you already have it) but as you mentioned, real food is always better. Personally, I would take 1 shake a day PWO and everything else would be solid food. Aim for 5-7 meals per day, including your shake. What is your breakdown of protein, carbs and fat? Any other supplements you're taking? Finally, how's your diet?

yeah nlarge2 is crap, it will pack on the weight, but it'll mostly be FAT! if you want a weight gainer that is much more healthier and cheap as hell, just make your own ..

My diet is pretty good i suppose. I eat as much as possible during the day... and have a nice healthy meal at night.. such as pasta with chicken breast....i eat a can of tuna and a glass of milk before sleep. Ill cut down to one NLarge shake a day for sure now. STEP OFF: what would you suggest for ingredients as far as making your own 'weight gain' shake? im very interested... obviosly want to save money! ha... thanks guys

first you'll need a bucket of whey protein, can get it very cheap online. here's a recipe I use, but there are many out there, be creative:

2 Cups Skim Milk
2 Servings Whey
2 Tablespoons Natty PB
I Cup Cottage Cheese
1-2 Tablespoons Olive Oil
1 Tablespoon Honey

thats a lot of calories right there .. might want to split it up into 2 servings.

Cut the enlarge, its not hard to eat that much food. that many calories in that little time (especially from a liquid), is most definatly being turned to fat. My max intake is about 50 protein and carbs per meal. i eat every 2-3 hours. I find it hard not to over eat. the only shake i take is a dextrose protien mix after my workout.
