Premade Weight Gainer Drink at Gym...

Hey guys, there is a weight gainer, supposed to aid recovery, etc.

i cant remember the name

it is

1090 Cals.
50g protein
220g carbs

BUT only 55g of those carbs are sugar, im trying to figure out if these would be healthy to drink slowly throughout the day.

What brand is it anyways? It couldn't hurt if your bulking. (Good job by the way) The macros are similar to pasta, 9 grams of protein to around 40 grams of carbs, which is the case with most weight gainers. Lots of carbs litte protein and I'm guessing no EFA's. I'd save the money and either make my own or get the cals from whole food. But if you're on the run and don't have time to eat it's better than starving.

Ill get the exact brand for us today...

it was 220grams of carbs, but only 55g was from sugar, leaving the rest to non sugar carb source, wich would be digested slowly right?

I know if i banged the drink out in 5 mins, my Insulin would spike, but im talking about a nice hour long sip.

just wondering...

This is not a safe assumption. Maltodextrin, for example, is very rapidly digested and is not counted as a sugar on the Nutrition Facts of foods. I use that as an example because it is very cheap to make and therefore very common in premade foods. It's got the same GI as dextrose and is the main carb used in most of those quick-energy gels that endurance athletes use during marathons/triathlons/etc.

It is possible that most of the carbs in your premade shake are slow to digest, but just knowing that they are not sugar is not enough information to make that determination.
