Post-workout nutrition: How much and for how long?

During/after my workouts, I've been eating Sweethearts (those maltodextrin/dextrose candies) and Isopure drinks (160 cals--40 grams whey protein, no carbs).

Is this enough? I still feel hungry. If I ate another meal that was a combo of protein/high GI foods, would that be good? Or is a high GI food at that point a waste?

I know you're best "window" for eating is a half hour, but can you stretch that out if you had a little snack in the car, on the way back from the gym?

Basically, is there a guideline for post-workout nutrition in terms of how much and how long after?

I've always heard that you should have your high GI carbs and some protein to take advantage of the infamous window after a workout -- and then wait 45mins. to 1hr. before consuming a "normal" meal (low GI, protein, etc.,).

After that you just resume normal eating habits (if you can get away with calling a bodybuilding diet normal, hehe)

Yep! Stryc-9 is right on the money.

I wait an hour after post work out shake to eat.

Buksoon...
