Newbie here needs guidance

It's a careful balance of three things... and before I get jumped read the WHOLE thing

the three things are;

diet
training
supplementation

if one is lacking (we'll use supps) then training and diet should be perfect..you can cheat a little with supplementing
we'll say, training and supps are perfect (and I'm talking legal and illegal here) then diet can be less than perfect
if training is a little rough then you need to focus on diet (perfect) and supps (probably over the top amount which isn't ultimately healthy)

I am NOT saying you SHOULD have diet and training askew but if you do you're going to need the crutch of supps until you get it under control

I don't think anyone here thinks you should be reaching for a substance first and diet and train second...myself included

but as a for instance...I looked over someones diet and training for them recently and asked them to give me a supplements list as well...I got the supps and training first and was perplexed why there were no fish oils in it (standard stuff you know?) till the person got me their diet a few hours later and I noticed they ate oily fish approx 5 times a week..ultimately that persons training was not the intensity she thought it was and some Q&A revealed she was making a couple of minor food errors that were costing her upwards of 500 cals a day (its shockingly easy to do). The moral of the story is ..look at the WHOLE picture first before making an assumption.

Great post thanks. She is the kind of girl that when we go eat out she gets the same thing, never tries anything new. SHe never had a blackberry when I met her 3 years ago and shes 25 now. In the protein shake I mde for her she said she didnt like the banana pieces that werent completely blended because of the "texture". I think its how she was raised, but it not that shes picky, its just that she hasnt tried anything new ever. So to change her diet from what it is to completely perfect is just gonna push her away from it i think. But I know eventually we need to get it better.

BUt I like what you said, as long as her supps and training is spot on then for now we can cheat with the diet for now.

Would a juicer be good for her, being able to blend a bunch of healthy stuff into a shake and getting good stuff down that way? I think she needs ideas on how to eat good stuff, like sweet potatoes and broccoli, pretty gross to her plain, but if we could mix it with something she might like it. We just gott try new things for diet

its funny while I was reading your post before I got to the bottom I was just thinking a food processor if shed like some texture or a juicer
in the meantime you could always put it through a strainer

change one thing at a time sloooowly with diet...with easy goals like "I will drink more water for one week"

if its done slow rather than going all out and going for a radical change all at once it becomes overwhelming and too much to keep track of. Slow baby steps leads to new habits which is real change

She's not competing for figure, she doesnt have to eat chicken and veggies all freaking day, I understand that chicken alfredo and hamburger helper arent exactly diet items but if she's not eating it daily there shouldn't be a problem, one of the biggest annoyments I have on the women's section is that everyone comes in and expects you to just eat perfect, I remember as a newb getting shit for snacking on carrots, cherries and fruit because of the fructuose and I was like WTF is this BS I wanna lose weight but screw this, most people wanting to drop weight to be healthy actually need certain "bad" foods as a step down from their already shitty foods, tell someone who eats the wrong things off the bat to eat like you guys do and you'r setting them up for failure, it's a gradual learning process.

Do you eat fatty, creamy buttery pasta in olive garden? try making pasta at home with multigrain pasta, lean protein and a natural tomato sauce, it's a gradual step down that is achievable for someone starting to learn, dont just tell them, yeah have boneless skinless chicken breast with a portion of vegetables or sweet potato.
Do you have some breakfast burrito/pre-made crap for breakfast? Try having two boiled eggs and some oatmeal.
Do you eat carb or sugar full snacks? Try some almonds instead.

See? Gradual... Ridiculous. Specially as Glad says she has 2 jobs and two kids, not everyone one has the time, money or energy to be able to eat like those of you who are ahead of the game.

I can help you and be happy too. Please list in order of importance.., your concerns, questions, issues, trouble/stubborn areas and MOST importantly your goals, followed by your ULTIMATE goal! btw, is ur avatar you and current? also, height, weight and body fat%; if you do not know, no worries, just helps me draw a tighter starting line. Thanks

First of all, thank everyone for responding to my thread. I was really discourage for a bit. I really appreciate everyones advice and input!! :) Now, as Glad said, I am currently taking a multivitamin, fish oil, green tea extract, B17, and Hydroxycut Hardcore Elite. I am working out 3x week. Push/Pull/Legs. I have 2 jobs. 1 as a server/bartender and my 2nd job is at Kay Jewelers. So a supplement that makes me jittery and amped up is perfect for my restaurant job! So that puts me working literally 6-7 days a week. As well as doing my motherly/wifely duties at home :) (I'm a busy momma)

In order of importance, I would say my concerns are basically having enough energy to accomplish my daily and weekly duties. As far as work, gym and home life.
My questions would be if you guys think that this Hydroxycut supp is a good source of energy and fat loss?
Also, should I just worry about weights right now and getting stronger? Along w/ my supplements and tweaking my diet, if I'm trying to lose fat around stubborn areas like arms and upper thighs? Which should I focus on first?

My goals are to be toned, get stronger, and build muscle.

Yes, my avatar is current. It was taking May 20th 2013. I am 5'2, 116 lbs, and BF is 16%

Thanks again everyone for responding! I will check thread again when I get off work in a little while! :)

yes i agree! slow changes are the way to change your habits. are there any good smoothies/shakes with broccoli in it that still taste good?

i think were gonna start making a weekly checklist of things she should start doing, that would be cool.

Guys aren't to be posting in here...if they are going to be rude or inappropriate to the female members.
