I would like to become a personal trainer, so anyone who is on or has experience in the area, your input would be greatly appreciated... recommendations as to what certification to earn, where to try to work, etc.... (I do want to get certified because I'm hoping I'll learn more about physiology and such because I wouldnt feel right being a PT without more knowledge in that area)

Also, I would like to do some fitness modeling...

I don't quite think I'm big enough to do fitness modeling yet, but around spring or summer I should be 225 - 230 very lean ...

I'm curious if anyone has done anything like this and what info they could give me ... I know I'll have to grow my hair out which is ok because my hair is quite thick though a bitch to deal with.

Anyway this sounds like a nice way to make some cash...anyone with experience in this area please post your thoughts.

Your gonna be 225 lean and your not big enough for a fitness model????

I guess that leaves the brad pitt look out.

Actually just the other day I decided that I wanted to be a personal trainer and maybe in a few years start my own company. In the NYC and vicinity there is alot of money to be made. Yes nsca is a very good one, ace is another good one. I was gonna send gearge an e-mail the other day on this subject. I look forward to hearing from actual trainers.

From what I've seen of personal trainers, the ones that seem to make the most money are the ones that work independently. You ever been in a franchised gym and see how many trainers they have? A Powerhouse I visited today must of had at least 12 trainers there. Most of them were just standing around.

Now my gym only has two regular personal trainers. The way it works is they collect the money from their client and give a cut of it to the gym. I don't know how much, I/m just guessing maybe 20-35%. One of the guys drives a nice BMW M3 and also rides a Ducati. Must be making some nice money.

I need to consider this....

I hear if your body makes you money as a PT or model, all your legal stuff is tax deductible.

I'd love to take the cost of a lot of my hobby off my income taxes. :D

I've been personal training in a major US city for over 5 yrs and let me give you some tips:

Don't start unless you live in an affluent area. NYC or SF are examples. People with money will spend money.

Get either the ACSM or the NSCA-CSCS and a degree in the field. These alone will establish your credibility first. All other certs are crap.

Learn how to train all different populations, not just bodybuilders. Diabetics, senior citizens, and competitive athletes all hire personal trainers, and if they are going to pay you, better know damn well what you are talking about. Dump all your FLEX mags and start reading some college texts.

Learn how to get along with people and motivate them. If you don't have the personality and charisma to motivate people to achieve their goals, all your knowledge is useless.

As a trainer, I got to fuck a lot of women, from 19 yr old college rich girls to 33 yr old hottie lawyers....
