Carbs and fats together. Yea or nay? Seriously, I mean...why is it so difficult to find a single absolute for this little issue? Shouldn't there be some general physiology for everyone?

And while I'm discussing carbs, what's the deal with eating carbs before bed? I mean, seriously...is it an issue? Isn't the main thing calories in < calories out for weight loss, and vice versa for gain? I have oatmeal every meal. 5 meals a day, and I have it in my meal before bed too. Maybe this isn't a smart idea though? Anyone on this?

Finally...how much fiber it too much? I'm guessing 80 grams would be bad. Yes?

I will tell you this: there is an absolute destitute of science behind this if any at all.
Now, make your own deductions (I'd start with practical application at the least) :o

I've always wondered why people get stuck on thinking that it's purely cals in vs. cals out. All I can ever say about that is to find your maintenance cals and eat that amount of M&M's in one sitting as one meal for the day...for an entire week and then get back to me on how much weight gets put on :p.

Practical application, Juve? Well, I hear reasonable points on both sides. If you eat them at the same time, the insulin spike from carbs will store the fat. At the same time, it's said that if you eat them at the same time, since fats digest slower, the insulin spike will have died by the time fats enter your bloodstream, therefore negating the former point.

So, which is true? I mean, they both are sensible. Could it be there's no true answer? I still would think some general stuff applies, as in fats digesting slow enough that they wouldn't jump in the same time as the insulin but...

I don't know.

Why is pizza so fattening? Chinese food? Burritos?

They are all high gi carbs mixed w/fats.

The fats in the meal will NOT blunt the slin spike remotely enough, if at all, from the high gi carbs contained within. If you had a great deal of fat, perhaps, but then you'd also have a great deal of carbs as well w/these types of choices. Low gi carbs and fat together MAY be safer, but there are easier/quicker/better ways to keep a great look w/out having to worry about something being low gi enough, will I store fat, etc. I know some who can, and do, eat natty peanut butter w/oatmeal. Now, that's not something I advise to anyone I am ripping up, yet some freaks can do it.

Note, I said freaks. You simply have to find where you fit in the freakiness category. There will always be exceptions to the general rule, however most of us ARE the general rule.
