Is it true that drinking too much water is not good for you?

I just read in my Oxygen magazine that came today that the Institute of Medicine recommends adult women get the equivalent of 91 ounces of water a day.

As we see, even the amount of water you drink is up for discussion as to whether or not it "good for you" - but what really burns my toast and just really flabberghasts me is that people only bring up this stuff when they see you doing something other than pounding McDonalds & sucking down a Mochaccino Latte w/ 6 shots of espresso. I drink 1.5 - 2 gal of water / day and have been for the last several years. I also used to be able to kill a 12 pack of Diet Coke/day during Finals Week in college. Obviously extreme anything is probably not healthy, but why do people get scared from something as inert as water? I'm willing to bet most people have inadequate minerals anyway just from shitty diet. Somehow I think it would be hard to find someone who drinks an unhealthily large amount of water but has a shitty diet and would have to worry about the excess water stripping away what little of the good stuff they have.

well, done w/ rant. People don't seem to be dying in droves from drinking 3 jumbo Seven 11 sodas, so what's a couple gal of water gonna do to ya??

Don’t you hate when somebody that isn’t eating right or exercising wants to offer advice about what your doing to get fit and healthy?

Somebody told mw the same thing about drinking water, plus she went on to comment about everything else that I’m doing to get fit. I just think misery loves company that’s all.

I don’t talk down to anybody that chooses not to eat healthy and exercise so I expect them to leave me along about what I’m doing too.

The point is that you have to try really damn hard to drink too much water. Not enough water is more likely to occur and by that nature is conceivably the worse of the two extremes.
