Instant recovery after workouts

Madd Hatter

New member
The word "recovery" is a little misleading here, but I couldn't think of a better word. Though it is true that 95% of the time I experience no DOMS after workouts.

When I lift, I'll get sweaty and have labored breathing and all that. But as I walk into the shower, I notice my breathing is back to normal and I feel like I could go right back out there. I always thought that maybe this was why my results weren't too good (combined with no DOMS), like maybe I lacked intensity. Then 8 weeks ago I started cardio and figured 'ok, I'll feel this for a while afterwards'. I've been doing about 40 mins all out and at the end I'm dripping sweat, panting like a dog, and think I may not have gotten through it without good music. But again, I'll go in the locker room, get into the shower and I'll be breathing regular and feeling ok!! Now, I KNOW this isn't good endurance, because I've never ran a mile under 8.5 mins in my life, and after a 9-10 min effort those nearby wonder if I need an ambulance, as I'm sprawled out on the floor red as a tomato.

After tomorrow I'm done with cardio and in 10 days I start GVT w/o cardio so this will all be a moot point (if I do GVT right it should be plenty regardless of how I feel after). But I'm just curious about this phenomena.

Push yourself harder, your working under your max effort and just working up a sweat.

Are you particularly strong or not? I am assuming that maybe you are not (yet) capable (possibly) of inducing extremely powerful voluntary muscle contractions. There are a bunch of other issues, too, like whether or not you go to failure, your routine setup, and more.

is the fact that you recover relatively quickly alarming to you? what is your workout, sports or exercise experience in the past?

your body shouldnt be traumatized to where you feel sick after a workout. at least not for a long period of time after :D . if you are confused why you feel "ok" after, its normal, the human body has very quick adaptation/recovery abilities. the longest i think i felt bad after a workout was around 10 minutes and that was on a leg workout. other than that, business as usual, but i still felt like i did some work.

i never feel sick after workouts, i know its been a good one when i feel dead tired yet relaxed, calm and very at ease. a hard workout should make you feel GOOD not sick

it varies from person to person. personally, i never feel sick after workouts, just extremely pumped and i feel great. on the other hand, my old workout parnter who live in washington now, would sometimes barf after our workouts.

If I am not a little sore the next day then I know it is time to add weight or switch it up.

DOMS is indeed a sign of a grueling workout but not all muslces will get sore after every workout.

for example, my triceps, back, chest, hamstrings, calves and rear and middle delts will get sore after every single workout! i then rest until soreness is totally gone before hitting them up again.

on the flipside, my biceps, front delts, quads, and traps, will not get sore no matter what!

i'm perfectly proportional and have no lagging part.

the point is that not every muscle will react to serious intensity in the same fashion.

but just cause you're not sore the next day, dont assume that your workout was in vain. not at all!

My legs always get sore cuz i dont train them very often. And my triceps get sore occassionally after i increase weight in lifts. Other than that I never really get sore.
