high carbs???

Question:
I have had one trainer put me on a 40p/30c/30f program and my new one for bulking 17p/77.3c/5.6f. Now I have read protein builds muscle so I am assuming that is the reason for the 1st program.

what is the theory of the higher carbs? I have tried looking on the internet, can't find the answer.

I am going to be asking my trainer but impatient want to know the answer right now

the theory behind it is simple. carbs = energy

IMO, fix the ratios back to the 40/30/30 or something similar..

that's the worst ratio's I've seen outside of Jenny Craig.. stick to what you were doing, just take in a -little- more protien and a little more fat or carbs if you want to add size.

ck- imo your protein ratio should never be lower then 30% of your diet...and that is on a high carb bulk...ideal would be 40/30/30 or 40 /40/20

proteins are the building blocks, carbs and fat are energy, how ever your body uses carbs as en energy source more easily then it would fat, or even protein(when there is no other energy source available), since you are bulking, take in more clean carbs, this will spare the protein meals that you eat for building and repairing.

thats not true the body burns fat more easily, fat is what gets used for energy when you are sitting walking light jogging etc

I am sooo confused LOL!

So to sum up...

Carbs=energy but not necessarily for building muscle, it is used to have more energy for a workout, and helps break down protein

protein= builds the muscle

fat= well is fat and is used when sitting around

Yes, no??? I don't see my trainer till tomorrow now

carbs can produce an insulin spike, which is in itself anabolic (and helps 'push' aminos into the muscle)

any carbs over and above maintenece will be stored as bodyfat, which is a Bad Thing. Old fashioned bulking had the trainee eat a lot of carbs for the anabolic effect & the increased water weight (which makes you stronger).

But basically that ratio sucks and you should find a new trainer if that's indicitive of their overall knowledge, there's no rational for putting anyone other than an ultra-marathoner on that kind of diet.

Definitley. CK, you know more than that personal trainer already. You don't truly need to know the effect of what a carbohydrate is, what a protein does, or why fats are essential for a diet.

I would tell your trainer to do some reading in his spare time so he doesn't malnutrition his other clients that don't have this forum to fall back on. If you are trying to cut I'd stick with the 40/30/30..bulking (for me at least) I prefer 40/40/20 (p/c/f)
