Thats exactly what the 5x5 is designed to do bro. If anybody is doing it and dosnt get that ass whipped feeling by about mid cycle then they arent doing it right.
Drop any additional ab work bro. You are wasting energy is all your doing. As you said from the deads and squats your abs get plenty of stimulation. Ab work dosnt do shit for your six pack either, Thats all about diet.
If you can try and get a couple naps in per week. You will find that it helps considerably. Also have some carbs before your workout, and a dam big breakfast on your workout days.
Last thing that I can tell you is espicially on your workout days drink all water you can before your workout. It helps. Nelson laid that one on me.

Yeah bro I've been doing exactly this^^^...my pre-workout meal looks like this
4oz steak
2eggs
1/2 c egg whites
3/4c oats
2tbls. Anpb
1scoop Wheytobuildmuscle
8-12oz 2%milk
Banana
And depending how hungry I am I might have a slice of whole wheat toast lol
Sleeping as much as possible...I'm in complete growth mode right now, Im putting on a little fat too but its mostly just bloat from the supps and all the food I'be been pounding lol. When I wake up my stomach is flat when I go to bed i feel like I'm 6months pregnant lol. I'm sacrificing everything for size right now though
