Fitness Advice from the Unfit

SheHuLK said:
i hate it when that happens! the overweight unfit person who thinks they know it all, and CONSTANTLY pass on their great knowledge to everyone for free, WITHOUT BEING ASKED, out of the kindness of their heart
I usually hear this "great knowledge" when an unfit person compliments me and then asks about my diet or training. I don't go around offering unsolicited advice, but when someone asks, I try to help. But some people think they have to refute whatever they hear and say it's wrong or dangerous, and such and such article, TV show, trainer, etc. said something else. Then these know-it-alls wake up and realize how stupid they sound and make some excuse as to why they're not in better shape and actually using all their "great knowledge".

no kidding :) i haven't heard that one before.. pure hilarity ;) ahhhh.. it's all these things that make me appreciate this little internet haven so much more :) even tho there's a lot of diff opinions expressed here on the board and sometimes the discussions get pretty heated, i usually learn even more from the often well thought out opinions and discussions.

Don't you people know ANYTHING?! Those shakes contain scary things like glutamine and creatine. And anything "anabolic" is a steroid, right? :FRlol:

There is no one resembling "fit" at my office. Everyone seems to disapprove of my diet and exercise plan. I got a lecture from one guy about how if I was lifting heavy/lower reps, it was going to look like I was building muscle but it wouldn't really be muscle and I wouldn't be getting stronger. I was so lost on that arguement that I kept my mouth shut.

People also think I'm crazy for eating so much. They think that the calorie content of my protein is too high. They think that it's a bad idea for me to ingest so much protein. Pretty much they seem to think that what I need is slim fast, carrot sticks, a bowflex, and an abtronic. It must a coincidence that I've lost 10%+ body fat since December. Hehe.

And if I eat something like a cookie, OMG everyone jumps down my throat about it. They have to point out the very rare diet cheats that I let myself have. I think some people want to see me failing....maybe because they lack the control to stick to my diet/exericise routines. Oh well, at least I'm happy, healthy, and living a life that works well for me. ;)

I get the same treatment at work. I'm just about sick of "God, you're so skinny.) This overweight slob of a man always seems to think it's appropraite and warranted that he coment on my diet and weight status, like you said, because they just wait to see yu fail (though the once or twice a month cheat days are hardly 'failing'). I just told him "How about you don't comment on my weight and I won't comment on yours." He promptly shut up.

the folks at my office are quite happy with all the martial arts stuff I do. My ex-boss once told someone I was a "scary" person based on all the training I kept doing (every time I met her I was complaining about muscle soreness from a previous tkd training session or something). I was well pleased with that :-). A lot of the guys I work with play amateur football (soccer to you americans) and they are not fat slobs. Although one has suggested running a dynamo generator off of me heehee. (I am not the quietest person in real life either
:D .

Oh, and several people shake their heads at me like I'm dumb as a rock because according to them, you should NEVER be sore after a workout. Hehe.

Can you imagine the looks I get from the neighbors or the people driving by my house when I am flipping tires, picking up rocks, and pulling my suburban up the driveway? :)

I remember working at the YMCA a while back and reading Dorian Yates book "Blood and Guts" at the front desk. This woman, a slurp of water shy of 400lbs, walks by and sees him and says..."ohh...that is just so gross." This woman was wearing spandex and had chunks for days...yet she thinks that Dorian is gross? Grrrrrrrr...

Was talking to a friend's mother the other day...and it really upset me. My friend is doing strongman now and their mother greatly disapproves. It will make them "too big". They will get fat. They are getting fat enough as it is, they don't need to be lifting weights to get bigger. They don't need to be eating food to lose weight, 1-2 light meals a day is best. This wouldn't bother me....but it does for 2 resons...

1) I love this person

2) Their mother is 250-300lbs

O yes i have heard the steriods in the protein foolishness. I thought i did not hear it right, but understood later that i did. Could not believe that one!!

I can never go anywhere without people looking at me and often saying things, somtimes not nice ones. Nothing i wear can hide my muscularity, and i certianly dont try to anyway.

I can cannot belive how many women think TOUCHING some iron will make them beefy! They have no idea the planning and very hard work we must do for years to look like this.

I guess we are all making a decision to be who WE want to be and must then face the giant amount of ignorance out there.

Yes, it's funny how people who DON'T train think they are so genetically GIFTED. But the ones who DO train think they have genetic shortcomings.

So true & very well put.

As a group exercise instructor (aerobics instructor), I deal with these ppl working as a gym employee. I'm constantly torn between wanting to convert them (spreading "THE TRUTH" as I call it) & wanting to tell them to "Shut the *#& up cuz you're an idiot." I generally try to convert any who ask me questions & want to listen. I enjoy it, & ignore the morons who don't want to hear it.

My department at my office is ALL women, mostly in their 20's & 30's, a few in the their 40's. Yes, it's about as bad re: gossip, bitchiness, etc. as you would imagine. I am the only fit one. They are all fat or skinny fat (wearing a size 4 but eating crap, smoking, & out of shape). I hear near CONSTANTLY about what I eat. There are only 8 of us in the dept, so you'd think they'd freakin' be used to it by now.

The boss ordered pizza for everyone a few Friday's ago & in I walk with my turkey burger, brown rice & green beans. Yet another comment, "Oh we're eating pizza & look at you with your healthy food."

I said, "I am so sick of people commenting on what I eat." That shut her up.

I'm a bodybuilder people, this is how I live & what I do, get used to it & SHUT UP ALREADY!
OK, thanks, I feel better now! :D
