Did deadlifts today. Same weight, but shorter rests. Wouuld this make me stronger?

I usually rest 5-7 minutes between sets for deadlifts. The deads take everything out of me and I have to rest up.

Today I tried something new. First three sets I only rested about 2 minutes max. The last two sets I rested about 3-4 minutes max. I was able to squeeze outa ll the reps.

Would resting less help me become stronger? I just thought I would try something new today.

I also did speed reps. I cranked out the 5 reps as fast as I could. As soon as the weight touched the floor, up it went again and so on and so on. Is this good to do? I usually don't completely deload the bar because my gym has those retarded hexagon type plates. It's a total pain to deload, straighten it out, regrip then lift again. I only deload completely on my last set when I can't grip it for 5 reps.

Basically it will - same weight/less time = higher volume of weight moved per sec. This requires the neuromuscular system to handle higher loads.

Speed deads develop power. The more force you can generate on the way up the more you can put on the bar.

As joed pointed out, conditioning is important and both the above methods help. Raw absolute strength is only part of the picture. Things like general physical conditioning, power, and ability of the CNS to cope with heavy weights are also important. it's all interconnected.

All great advices, nothing else to add. Except you shouldn't be doing speed deads because you still need to have a strong base, dynamic effort training it's an advanced technique and @ this point you may get to hurt yourself because your body it's not ready for that.
