Deadlift specialization

I realize most competitors focus more on the squat and let those muscles and minimal pulling take care of the deadlift. Well, what if someone, like myself, thought they had a chance to get really good at the deadlift if they specialized there efforts into the dead? I am not a naturally good squatter. I have a decent dead for my size and from my pic some of you even said I had a decent build for deads. Some of my long term goals in powerlifting, really focus on the dead. Breaking records in different weight classes and just hitting certain weights. Since, well basically I just love to deadlift and feel I would be much more competitive in the future as a dead only or push/pull competitor, are there steps I should take to try and take my deadlift to the next level from decent to damn good?

I wrote up an 8 week plan to try something different with my deadlifts to see if I can put on like 20-30 lbs to my max. Basically uses 8's for 2 weeks, then 5's, then 3's and then a submaximal single or maybe double the week before I test it. I am going to do plenty of reverse hypers, GHR, pull thrus, abs, box squats, goodmornings, etc. Is it wrong to devote a day a week to my deadlift+assitance, my main leg day and then just do light box squats along with all the assistance on the other day??

I don't know if in that rambling I made my point, but basically I would like to squat a lot, but I would rather take my deadlift up to maybe an elite level some day, than have it be above average with a decent squat ya know? Any thoughts?

Just an idea of ho I might want to set up the routine:

Mon-Board workout(Jay helped e with the bench stuff)
Wed- Box squats, assistance
Fri- Bench workout
Sat-Deadlifts, events*

*I would perform some lower body nd grip strongman type stuff. Holds, farmers walks, carries with various objects, perhaps pulling or dragging.

Any thoughts? B Fold?

I'm with you . I love to deadlift and i seem to be the strongest at it out of the three. I too have plans to break some records in it in the future and would really like to focus on it. However, I believe that the biggest thing that has brought my deads up is GMs for a heavy single for max work. The great thing about them is they work great for both the squat and deadlift. I htink your plan looks good and you should give it a try. I also think that all the ghr work and pullthroughs are of the utmost importants for a big dead. Your plan looks good.

I was in Georgia this past weekend and was so close to grabing a tire to flip for an extra workout and GPP work ,anybody think it would be beneficial. I do sled work as well.

IRBD,definately do it, your built for deads, and your bench isnt to shabby either.. you almost benched 100lbs over your b/w thats really good. and deadlifts, they're amazing. You know you can break records, and do good. Go join the WABDL, you'd do really good once you got all stuff together

Synpatic facilitation.

Try it. Use it.

Use it for your deadlift exclusively along with your regular PL routine.

I'm not a genius...I know very little about weight lifting or anything else, in fact.

I think I'll start a new thread about this though, it might be interesting...

bullshit, everything you say sounds like a harvard scholar said (ok not quite that geniusy, but pretty close) I've talked to you before , and i know your smart and know what your talking about in most cases. So start a thread about it so i know what it is already!

LOL....thanks, I appreciate it.

I have a long way to go. My goal is to know as much as Arioch one day :)
