Correct chinups

When doing chinups, for proper form, how high shouldI get? I notice that when I just start, I am able to raise myself upto the nipples, but as I go doing more reps it gets lower, and lower. So to consider a rep done, is it enough to just get the chin over thebar?

well officially yeah you need to get your chin over

however to get in a great workout you don't HAVE TO do things perfectly where you lock out elbows etc. that is actually why crossfitters get injured so much, they HAVE TO lock out and do things perfectly. no cheating allowed.. this puts a lot of stress on their mobility

A proper chin up starts with your arms fully locked out and ends with your chin touching the bar.

Doing a proper chin up is not easy. Very few people have the upper body strength needed to do a single proper chin up. If you can't do a proper chin up, start with assisted chin ups and lat pull downs until you have the upper body strength to do a proper chin up.

While getting your chin up to the bar is a rep, those failed reps are actually fantastic for growth. This is the same concept as having someone spot you on bench press. Those last few reps are so important.
