Bridesmaids dress for $536.50!!

I am horrified. That is not a fair request. Not at all. That's more than a car payment. I think that's selfish to expect anyone else to spend that kind of money. It's just one day! That's what some brides don't get-- there's the actual wedding and I think that's the special part and then there's the party.

My bridesmaid dresses were $200 apiece and I knew the financial situations of every one of my girls and I paid for all of them. They didn't even have the option to pay.

You're an angel for doing that. :)

that was very sweet of your parents to go through all that trouble. i know your friend will look back on all this later and really be thankful for everything.

yeah they're generous to a fault. Sometimes people really take advantage of them but this time it was for a good cause.

Damn, why do people splurge on the wedding and spend the rest of the marriage trying to pay for it?? I'm glad you were able to stand up with your friend and all, but seriously, $500??? I choked on the $180 + $70 for alterations I had to pay for my little brother's wedding for the "gorgeous" bridesmaid dress. Why is it that only the bride thinks the bridesmaid dresses are "gorgeous"?? By the time you add up dress, shoes, wedding gift, potential cost of travel if needed, etc etc etc in addition to all the pre-wedding stuff people do these days.

I hope your friend can budget her marriage better than her wedding.

Mom had to help me with the dress a little and she paid for the alterations totally. I think I probably ate $400 of it myself though. But I bought her the cheapest availabe item on her present registry, a $30 water filtration pitcher. I think she realized the day of the wedding her presents from her bridesmaids were all cheapies because of the dress prices.

That was an incredibly sweet thing for you to do :) I hope your friend remembers your gesture in the future. So, what happened to the bridesmaid dress now? Is it just sitting in your closet now? That's usually what happens with bridesmaid dresses... usually there's no where else to wear them, or that you'd want to wear them too! lol.

Indeed I was insane and paid for the dresses. And their alterations. It was MY splurge to them to do that for them and then spoil them with hair/makeup/pedicures at the aveda spa and I bought them all handbags, sparkly hair pins, lipstick palettes from clinique, and a couple of other things.

They were my sanity that day and it delighted me to make them feel so great.

i am letting my bridesmaids pick out or style their own dresses. as long as they are blue and have a reniassace style that way they can spend as little or much as they want.
