If I'm into a rigorous boxing regimen where I am training for an amateur fight (running for miles 2x wk, sprints 2x wk, weightlifting 2x wk, plenty of sparring, bag/mit work, jump rope, good diet, plenty of water, etc.) will taking glutamine and a protein shake daily help me or is it a waste?

The reason I ask this is because I am only lifting 2x a week. I am already taking a multi vitamin.

1) Does glutamine help in recovery for doing alot of cardio or just recovery in lifting?

2) Is it a waste of time to take glutamine and protein shakes daily if I'm only lifting 2x a week?

Thanks in advance.

Taking glutamine or protein shake during non lifting days isnt a waste at all. Once you finishyour cardio or any lifting routine, protein and glutamine will help to aid recovery and keep your body from entering a catabolic state where muscle tissue is destroyed.

My opinion: Keep drinkin them shakes on non liftingdays.

You should be on a high protein diet everyday, you just wanna take in a little more post workout..and up your cals a little bit on the days when your training more.

I trained earlier this summer for a bout that I did about 6 wks ago. I used shakes and creatine daily, did the same type of workouts you mentioned. Came in real lean and hard. I have pics of the bout in my gallery.

Yeah just try to get enough protien and carbos in your diet.

Next April. How about yourself?

Ddin't I tell you I stoped boxing? Well, I hope after my upcoming cycle of fina, EQ, and test that I will start going back to my old boxing club out in LA to hopefully start training again. You never know.
:)

definately stick with the glutamine , especially powder form which contains 5g / serving. i'd even suggest taking it b4 bed time to prevent muscle wasting
