Bodybuilders Are Stronger Than Powerlifters!

  • Thread starter Thread starter SSAlexSS

Holy Shit! I cant believe i have read this thread. All i can say is this Alex. Number 1 i m a powerlifter. I am a WPO professional bencher, i am also ranked Number 1 in the country for my bench in The APA. There is a web site to prove it. I am no bull shitter is the point i am stressing at the start, so what i say has some meaning, and i am not some weak body builder looking for an excuse to lift less in the gym. Your scietific theory only would work with equal size people. I infact I did 500 lb bench last week 5 times but before that i did 455 for 5 405 for 10, 315 10 count that up. I wont even go in to my squat workoout cause you will need a calculator. BUt my point of this thread really wasnt about who is stronger cause that point is so simple i need not go in to further. Its the powerlifters are fat asses. I train amongst bodybuilders along with powerlifters. And i take nothing from Bodybuilders that is what they train for. But unless your a real bodybuilder like over 250lbs, or no over 220lbs. Ok better, over 200 in contest shape. Besides at contest time, how can you say they look better? Now i know this board has a shit load of bodybuilders under 200 lbs, and thats ok but i am currently weigh 250lbs, my body fat is 15%, That may be high to you under 200 or 175 lbers out there but i knwo the gym i lift in (biggest golds in Florida) has a shit load of Bodybuilders who do look shredded on stage but off season there bodyfat is higher then mine. The big ones the guys my size. SO here is something to think about. A little make believe challenge. I am 5'10 inches, i have 15% body fat, 19 1/2 arms, 55 inch chest , 30 inch thighs, 34 inch waist, ok 35, 18 1/2 calves.
I lift 800 squat, over 600 bench, and around 575 dead lift. I bet you i could reach your lowest or whatever you call Bodybuilder body fat level in 10 weeks. Do you think in 10 weeks you could lift my weights? I dont know how big you are but do you have a 20 inch difference between your so lean waist and chest? Dude powerlifting is a sport. And you obviously have never been to a real powerlifting meet. Not local but national. You would shit at the physiques you would see. Low body fat , shredded muscles and lots of abs. Maybe you didnt realize there are 12 weight classes ranging from 114 to SHW. Yu see pic of Anthiny Clark, Gary frank, Jim voronin, Jamie Harris, all those huys are very popular and excellent at there sport but all of those are super Heavy weights. I dont mean dis respect to any BB or any one in general, but Alex out of the three sponsers i have one is a tanning company and consider i also shave you wouldnt evn guess me as a Powerlifter if you came into my gym...until you see me lift. Your a shit talker. In your sport what is your national ranking? How many sponsers do you have? YOu see, who is more advanced in there sports!

Body builders are most definately not week, Usually Power Lifters are stronger but not much

I think that people think bodybuilders are weaker is because they train to 'look good' and have yummy muscles but powerlifters (as far as I know) dont realy eat as healthy and worry too much about how they look they worry more about how strong they are.

Its two totaly different types of sport, like soccer and rugby and people shouldnt assume bodybuilders are just steroid junkies but unfortunately thats how bodybuilders have been stereotyped for ages now.

Several issues here:
'Powerlifters are stronger but not much': Chris Cormier, who is reputed to be amongst the strongest bodybuilders was featured in a powerlifting mag (could be PLUSA) a year or so ago doing squats. This was an attempt to give bodybuilders credibility in the powerlifting community. Now he unracked a reasonable weight (600lb I believe) but he didnt break parallel. Now lets compare that to a similar sized powerlifter of a similar standing in their own sport.....you might expect them to squat 800lb.....and several can do 1000lb going below parallel. Thats 40% more weight and going alot deeper than this 'strong' bodybuilder. Saying Mr. Cormier is almost as strong as a powerlifter is like saying I am almost as strong as Powerlifterjay (for some facts on him see his post on this thread).

'Powerlifters dont eat healthy': Depends on the powerlifter in the same way that a bodybuilders diet varies. Please do yourself a favour and attend a national powerlifting meet. You will be very suprised at the physiques there.......and I'm not entirely sure that bodybuilders diets are incredibly healthy (e.g. keto diets).

'Bodybuilders arent steroid junkies': hhhmmmmm ok. Whatever you say......Mr. Coleman must have got to his size through good diet and hard work alone huh.

Batzgirl, I hope this didnt come across as insulting or condescending. Bodybuilding is about creating an image......unfortunately many bodybuilders make things up in order to propagate this (try looking up Jimmy Pellechia on the web). There is alot of bullshit assumed about bodybuilding, unfortunately alot of people buy into it. Bodybuilding is not a particularly healthy pursuit if you want to take it to the level of competition. Also, I am tired of hearing people who know little about powerlifting telling me that powerlifters are fat and unhealthy......for a reality check go to Powerlifterjays post.

Excellent post Jay, Endpoint and the other PL friends from the PL forum.

I think the dude who started this bullshit argunment just sees bodybuilders in the pros like Flex Wheeler, Shawn Ray, Dorian Yates and Jay Cutler and thinks that they are stronger than powerlifters just because they have the appearance of strength because they are so giant and ripped that they look strong (and they are) but they arent strong compared to top powerlifters like Coan, Keene, Tate, Vogepohl etc....

Also dont judge a persons strength by looks. I probably look stronger than I actually am. I have seen way to many people that I didnt think look that strong put up some serious numbers in the bench, squat and etc that I underestimated at first. Some people seem to grow bigger easier and some get strong without really growing too much bigger, I guess it depends on genetics and leverages.
Remember that bodybuilders train for size and powerlifters train for strength. Bodybuilders look really strong but they arent compared to powerlifters.

Wrong...

SSAlexSS you don't know what you are talking about. You need to educate yourself so that you can speak intelligently about this subject. It is obvious that you know very little about powerlifting and I would be hesitant to take advice from you concerning bodybuilding. I don't think it a stretch in saying that you have very little credibility on this forum.

Why are bodybuilders considered weak and powerlifters strong?

Its quite different! Boidybuilders dont train for size, they train for stregth and that is why they are larger than plifters!

Lets me explain.

Powelifter does
500pounds for 4 reps

Meanwhile bodybuilder does
225 pounds for 16 times in the same time.

Sure 225 pounds is less than 500 pounds... BUT. 225 * 16 = 3600 pounds lifted. 500 x4 = 2000 pounds.

Bodybuilder lifted 1600 more pounds than PL did.
Then our powerlifter takes a 5 minute break since he almost ripped his chest doing 500 pound bench.

Our Bodybuilder takes only 1 minute brake and does another similiar set.

Eventually bodybuilder has lifted like 10,000 of more pounds of weight than plifter. Guess who will grow more???

Sure plifter is stronger than bber in 1-6 rep ranges... But overally bodybuilder lifts MORE weight!

Like arnie said "there are different kind of strength. I may lift 500 few times, but you lift 400 10 times and I couldnt do that."

(rough quote).

And now, note to myself * put a big fire coat, I expect lots of flames from angry powerlifters. But hey , it is their fault that they dont lift enough damn weight!!!!!!***

You might want to sit down and think something through before posting it next time. This really doesn't make sense.
Cheers

This message is for CytoMel. Dude when i read your post in you put my name with Coan, Tate , and Vogelphol, it gave me goose bumps! Thanks bro, i appreciate more then you probably know.

LOL!! Alex, you never cease to amaze me.

Tell you what, I can lift 3lbs about a thousand times. I must be the strongest man alive.

Your'e beating me to the punch today. Bodybuilders work on building all muscles, some of them are useless for increasing strength. Powerlifter do more synergy type lifts that required more then one muscle group. Show me a bodybuilder who has good size, who first did not build his foundation doing powerlifting. If bodybuilders are stronger, why isn't ronnie coleman winning/participating in strong man competitions.
