Board Press vs. Rack Work

growin'

New member
I see alot of PL's do board presses. Is there anything better about them than doing presses in the rack with the pins set a few inches above your chest? Is there a better carry over as you feel the contact against your body as opposed to the racks.

With a board press you are workin in the same groove as when you lift in competition. When you press off of pins you are lifting from a position that you would never find yourself in. Rack presses have their place in training...but IMO board presses are much more effective. Just have to find what works for you

Good Luck

Board presses work just like having a bench shirt on. When you take the bar downward onto the pins...the bar stops completely. With the boards you take the bar down and as they touch the boards it still sinks in a bit into your chest. It is constant tension as the pin presses are not.

Hope this made sense.
