hello! I am wondering if someone could please give me their opinion on the diet I have created for myself. I do not like the atkins, as it has alot of fats and red meats, and I love carbs. However, I am trying to rid myself of all processed carbs. My diet to lose weight is this:

non-carb protien drink in a.m.
lunch can have carbs, but preferably unprocessed, and no sugar
dinner is protien, non-carb shake.

If i get hungry, I am allowing myself protien non-carb bars, or unrefined whole grains, such as bran flakes.

no carbs at night. This adds up to about 80-100 carbs a day, and moderate fat, not more than 60 grams. I am also watching the calories, no more than 1500 (fine for my frame to lose weight on)

I am wondering if cutting down on the carbs, but not eliminating them, and not too much on fat will allow me to lose weight. Low carb forums suggest taking all carbs out. But can i still lose weight (albeit more slowly) on a diet such as this? Or do I need to chose one or the other- low carb or low fat?

thanks everybody!

1500 calories?
damn that's low and only eating 3 times a day?

Firstly are you male or female, if you're female i'll excuse the low calories but not the fact that you're only eating 3 times a day and want to lose weight.

Eat six times a day and dont eat too little calories!

You've got a good thing going giving up processed carbs and sugars. Stick to carbs like veggies (green veggies and salads etc)
sweet potatos, yams, beans, oatmeal and barley and other low GI stuff

get some High GI carbs post workout with some hydrolysed whey protein

In answer to your question on the poll both are important but obviously calories eaten will be key in the weight loss process. about 500 calories less than what you need is a good estimate and i would recomend only 250 defecit being made by diet and the other 250 calories deficit should be coming from extra excersise and physical activity.

I'm big on low carb diets, however BA said everything I was about to say. I will point out that on a low carb diet you need alot of fat calories. 60 grams of fat isn't going to cut it. Also 80 grams of carbs is not low enough to garner all of the benefit of a low carb diet.
