I think in my case it was actually undertraining which was the reason why the increase in volume and frequency of training worked. But I agree what you're saying, if the problem is overtraining then more training will not fix the problem. I also think that recovering ability does increase as mscularity/fitness or whatever you want to call it increases, I know it has for me, so you can train bodyparts more than once per week and not be overtraining and get better results.
