6-miler after leg day - whew!

I went for a long run this morning, about six miles at an 8 min mile pace. I usually only go 3 but I try to get in a long one on Friday. I had a great leg workout on Wednesday (squats, stiff-legged deadlifts, calve raises) and my legs were still sore today.
I ran with a group of about 6 runners and it was challenging as hell! Anyone else have a rough time running a day or two after doing legs?

That's always been my dilemma. I am a runner and a weight trainer. It's hard to do both well but that's my objective. It can be done.:fro:

I agree. Unless I can barely walk after leg day, which is not every time, I'll hit the cardio. I think it's worth it.

Uff!

IF you're weight training for muscle growth, then you're beating the purpose of it. By running that hard and long after a tough leg work-out you're just burning out the leg muscles. Don't expect any significant growth.
But if you're just training your body for extreme endurance, like for EcoChallenge, Triathlons or Extreme Mountaineering, that type of grueling events, then you're accomplishing just it, provided you get enough rest after such workouts. By inducing your body to perform while building up lactic acid you're adapting your system to keep performing even after fatigue has set in, while at the same time toughening the mind. Getting used to saying YES! when the body says NO!
My two cents,
Corsaire

I do want muscle growth and I know the best thing would be to max recovery time. I think 48 hrs is enough. The thing is, I know guys who are studs in the weight room and great runners to boot. In short, I could just lift and be huge or I could just run and be swift. The challenge is to be big and swift. That is what I want.

dude, it takes a LONG time to get 'big'.

and it takes a LOT of drugs to get 'really really big'.

giving your legs extra time to rest/grow will not make you huge in a long while mate.

Thanks Corsaire

Robboe - Yeah, I don't know if my legs will ever be huge, but they have pretty good definition and continue to get stronger. I like to sprint as well, and I can say that weight training and sprinting DEFINITELY compliment each other. The battalion staff does interval work every Wednesday morning and I am consistently the fastest although I am 15 yrs older than some of the officers.

gymtime - that was my situation this morning. i could barely walk! Felt much better after a couple of miles though.
