13 year old daughter smoked me in the mile run!

After reading all these threads about cardio I thought I would go run a mile tonight. My daughter is very athletic and wanted to come along. I figured I would have to slow the pace big time but she started off pretty fast. I told her she had better pace herself or we would not make it. lol. She said she was fine so i ran along with her and about the last 1/4 mile she starts pulling away. She ended up running about a 7 1/2 min mile and I ran about 8 min mile. I know it’s pretty sad. When I was in my early 20's in the corps I could run it in 6 min. I am not fat at all but my cardio sucks dick. And I never thought my daughter would smoke me. I am pretty embarrassed and I will be running 2x a week now and hopefully soon I will be able to beat her again.

I doubt it, since endurance training is bad for you...if anything it will just make you lose by more. I'd go lift weights, that will help more.

LOL...Just messin with all the anti-cardio guys. Good luck with your competition. Maybe next you can move up to beating 13 year old boys!;)

One thing to keep in mind is what kind of muscle mass you are carrying. You say you are not fat, but are you big/muscular? If so, it is a LOT more work for a bb'r to try running than someone who is not.

Actually I think she would smoke just about any of the boys in her class but yes I have some work to do. I dont figure it will take long.

That's the attitude!:) Keep us updated in all seriousness. It'd be cool if you could have some tests done now, and then after you start doing this training...just to see the benefits of cardio first hand...

you could even just do it yourself if you just keep track of your resting heart rate and stuff like that.

welcome to the club bro. I run sprints and distance with my daughter. She is 17... a super athlete... and on sprints she leaves me like I'm standing still.

Yes I am bigger than every right now. 230 with about 13% BF. Thats what I told her also. She is 90# so I have 140# on her.

most 90lb individuals will out run 230lb'ers.. weight is one of the biggest factors in run time (particularly distance (over 40m)..

in a sprint that is a different story.. though as SG points out not always so different...
