Why are so many people affraid of squats?

It is amazing how many people neglect the best mass builder for the entire body. People forget that squats will strengthen the entire body, plus release hormones. It is quite ridiculous when someone can bench more than they squat. Trainers that don't use squats in their routine will never reach their maximum genetic potential. Its funny how people brag about their bench, but they say nothing about their maximum squat. Sign your name here if you use squats in your routine. Also, what are the excuses you guys hear from people who totally avoid squats?

You mean we are supposed to squat? :)

No earthly idea what I can squat...not even an estimate...

B Fold,

You know the value of the squat. Could you imagine perfoming well in your competitions without using squats in your routine? I think not.

do lunges count? :p

hehe, tonight is legs, think i'll go for an ATF 1RM. i just implemented them a while ago (ATF, that is) so i might want to get a reference. then...get some bands and see how that feels too. hehehehe.

(i gotta stay out of reading WSB stuff, the band thing intrigues me, as does ME/DE days.)

squats should be the core of any routine! People that have no clue think that hacks, leg presses etc will give you the same development, but they couldn't be more wrong!

I have to stay away from squats for the most part during the cross country season, because earlier in the season i was doing them, and instead of going down my times went up, i figured i was overtraining my legs, but i can't wait to start them after the season is over!

Squats are just plain frightening to the "average" lifter. (Heck, I still get spooked some times on max day!) AND they are just plain HARD. And that's exactly what I like about them — there is no real way to do them without intensity. You screw around and you are a gym floor roadkill. They are a challenge I look forward to week in, week out.

People with bigger benches than their squats just don't get it.

yeah squats always feel heavy - no matter how much stronger you get, even BW feels heavy - at least for me :)
