Today- I witnessed dedication.

i did a quick google for top 220 pound deadlifts. my point wasnt the list, it was saying a 75 year old dude pulling 750 is bullshit.
I still don't get why

(a) 750 is so important. It's not like I stood there counting the plates to verify what he had to say.

(b) if he really did pull 750 he would have to be on a list. Why couldn't he just be doing this for himself?

Maybe he pulled 750 or maybe he pulled only 550 it doesn't matter. What was the true essence of my meeting with him was:

1.) His knowledge on training, progression and injury prevention

2.) His life experiences

3.) His ability to inspire the best in me

So therefore, how does you "calling BS" make an iota of difference on those 3 important factors which I hold true value to?

i dont care what YOU hold true. im a fact based person. the fact that you had to use hyperbole to create a story makes me question the entire post. i would have been way more impressed if the story was close to believeable like, "i saw this 75 year old guy doing 315 on deads and he told me his life story and blah blah blah." again, i dont really care. inspiration is what you make of it. if making up stories is soemthing you do to create inspiration, have at it. someone tells me they saw soemone pull 900 lbs., i tell them show me. i dont derive inspiration from anyone else.

But he wasn't doing 315. I was doing 315. He was doing much much more. Yeah 900 lbs would be a huge stretch but I was just saying what the guy told me. I just accepted it. Maybe if someone mentioned pulling 900 lbs online I'd feel like having seen a video of it but in this case I was much more interested in hearing what he had to say that I genuinely (and clearly naively) just accepted his number. This was a year ago and I didn't know as much about lifting as I do now so I accepted it at face value. I truly think that if someone pulls 750 @ 75 it would be absolutely groundshattering. But, I see your point. I'm just trying to explain that I wasn't lying about the number...I was just recounting the meeting as it was and I really accepted his numbers at face value.

toady when i was doing rows some man who was probably in his 80s went up to the DB rack. He couldn't walk straight, one of his hands was immobile, and with all his might he took a 12 pound dumbbell off the rack and walked with it and did preacher curls with 1 arm. Then, 2 minutes later he finally got to a curl machine and worked his ass off to get on and do forced reps (his other arm was guiding the weight up). This guy was fucking inspiring; never seen anyone like him in my life. If I thought he was able to hear, I would have went up to him and congratulated him for his hard work.

Wow.. I can see myself doing that.. I dont wanna get old though =(
