Second time Benching like Knostantinov...

Yesterday was my second bench day of trying out the Konstantinov style, which is just a close grip bench press. His reasons for it are basically how I feel about benching so I figured I would give it a shot.

So anyways, I put 265 on the bar to attempt a couple reps yesterday and see how it went. I got my close grip nice and tight and went for it...

After getting it 3/4 of the way back up somehow I lost my grip on it and let 265 freefall right onto my chest! I have never lost a grip while benching so I was really caught off guard by it, I can't believe how far that shit bounced off my chest! After my spotter helped me get it racked I couldn't believe that I didn't have a bruise or any pain whatsoever, but man oh man was that shit scary!

I watched a guy drop 315 on his chest on the incline. He was a big fucker though (pro bber) and it did not seem to phase him one bit. I think adrenaline has a lot to do with it.

I mainly bench with a shoulder width grip or narrower. Anything wider beats my shoulders up after too long.

did you use a false grip bro?

SouthernLord benches mainly with a close grip too...

I'm not exactly sure what you mean by false grip... like a suicide grip?

I used a regular grip with thumbs wrapped around like I normally do on bench. I've never dropped the weights before so this totally took me by surprise. I think that the weight from the bar was more on the outer edges of my palms and It just lost friction.

SL - yeah man I guess its the adrenaline, I literally didn't feel anything afterwards and I have no marks or pain today at all. I thought for sure after that shit bounced off my chest that I was going to be injured!

Definitely chalk that up to the endorphins your body releases when you exercise. You can punch holes through walls and barely feel that ish, its described as natural morphine. Our bodies are amazing.
