running

Ok, so the thing is, I run as well as workout and I'm looking to build muscle and get nice and tone. But, I can't workout cause I have a broken wrist, ans that's until Jan 17th. So, basically, will running with a workout burn muscle, even if I take protein with the running and workingout. And same question again but, without the workout part, cause I can't workout like I said.

yes..it will burn muscle. broken wrists are a curse..it will take a while to rehab it as well.

just make sure you are sipping on a gatorade/othercarbdrink and drink a shake after..it should keep the muscle loss minimal...

What?! how come I can't just run, take a shake and then the muscle will repair, just like working out.

With just running, you're not doing anything to your muscle to tell your body that you need it. When you lift weights on a regular basis, this is what you're telling your body...that you need that muscle for the next workout. Just running won't do that. So you will lose muscle during this time, but when you start lifting again, you will get it back, so don't stress.

Ok,ok so should I not do heavy running at this time because I'm not working out now. But, I have alot of running to make up on my log. Also, running with my workouts, good idea? or bad?

I hate to tell you this but it will be awhile after you get the cast off until you can lift well........maybe a LONG while, especially if you aren't very careful. Depending on the break a wrist can sideline you for a year.

shit man, this totally sucks, how will I keep a decent shape then?
I'll talk to my doctor about the whole workingout thing on Thurs ( I have an apt. then )
And, also if it helps, I broke/fractured both the ulna and my radius in my right hand, and it totally sucks. Cause I'm right handed.

Breaking both bones sucks. The closer to the wrist the harder to rehab. I suggest cutting the cast off tomorrow (I never leave any arm cast on longer than 3 weeks!) and use ace wraps to stabilize the wrist. Start your own physical therapy now bt flexing your hand and wrist. Take it slow and start to do some mild gripping excercises to SLOWLY develop forearm and grip strength. If they are wanting you to keep the cast on for 6 weeks that is BS.
Don't freak out this is just part of life.....I have had 27 broken bones! You can and will come back: Fitness is a lifelong endeavor and temporary setbacks are just that: temporary! If you do something stupid like pressing movements you Will set yourself back. Just be patient....... :)

27 broken bones? my god....you sound pretty frail if that's really true. I've yet to have a broken bone in my life, and played sports from age 8 to current...that's just strange to hear.

Ok, thanks for that man. But, I don't think my parents are going to let me take the cast off, specially cause the doctor told me to have it on til Jan 17. I'll post on here again on the 17th what the info is from him. And you think I'll be able to be working out as soon as it's off?
