Such as in a protein shake taken after a workout mixed with water.

Wouldn't you want the protein to be absorbed quickly into the system after a workout? If you combine the protein with a fat wouldn't it be absorbed more slowly? Will protein by itself be converted into sugar in the liver??

I'm confused.....

I think whey has a 56% conversion rate (to glucose) when taken on it's own. But yah, I think that would be beneficial post-workout.

not quite sure what you mean, but I have heard that you are supposed to either take protein alone after a workout, or a protein with some type of carbohydrate, never fat!

dude, what ur saying sounds so far off I think youre confused. YOu want protein to ba absorbed as fast as possible after weights.

Protein should only be taken alone (IMO) right in between weights and cardio.

All other occasions, you either have PRO and carbs together or PRO and fat together (never fat and carbs 2gether).

Right after the workout, have protein and carbs like pop tarts, fruits, etc.

I have been told in the past to have a protein shake mixed with skim milk for example before bed as the milk will help the protein absorb more slowly....

After a workout I have been told to have a protein shake mixed with water only to speed up the absorbtion of the protein into the system....

However, I was told recently that one should never have a protein shake made only with water as it will convert to sugar in the liver ---> true or not??

True
But fiber and/or fat will make prot being absorbed even slowlier

So, I'm ok with 1 scoop of protein powder (use ON at 23g protein per serving) and just water? Whew!!

After workout (weights + cardio, weights + walking, weights alone) what type of shake would I consume optimally?? 1 scoop protein (say vanilla) blended with 2 strawberries? Or something else.....

It is recommended to take dextrose/maltodextrins with your protein post workout
