Praise the Deadlift "How has it helped you?"

I have never seen a lean (say under 11%) person with an ass that was too big. I find it hard to believe that deads would create disproportion unless someone is storing fat there and lack of muscle is hiding it (which I doubt is your case casual). Also I don't see how you can get big legs without a big ass - squats, deads, and leg presses all hit it hard. Or a big ass without big legs, for that matter.

It's possible that at first, the glutes stick out more than the hamstrings, but then the hamstrings 'catch up.' spatts and coolcolj (i think) have commented on how growing hamstrings eventually kill the 'bubble' of the butt by thickening the legs to the same proportions as the glutes.

I'm sure you know what you're doing casual, but I don't think your results are normal.

For me, they eliminated chronic lower back pain and improved my posture. Also got my forearms growing. I do mostly SLDLs/RDLs though.

Are most people talking straight legs or conventional?
What are the differences in result ( where the gains hit) I cant decide to do conventional or straight leg on top of a box(for better ROM).
Thanks!

Deadlifts postponed my back surgeries for several years.

They gave me a core of power superior to any other lift

They made my back explode, whether it wanted to or not

They massively developed my grip

They set me apart from all the little twerps doing row machines and pull-downs

They were my gateway drug to further powerlifting

They gave me a new understanding of the word "intense"

Post injury(ies), I can no longer deadlift, and I would give every single thing I own to be able to do them again.

Anyone that avoids them completely might as well take up badmitton.

Hmm, never really put much thought to this. Do deadlifts serve a specific bodybuilding purpose? (I know a lot in powerlifting)

I know it mostly works the lower back, but does the lower back get bigger? Thicker?

I am a little confused, but this probably seems like a newbie question. :(

I do them now for two reasons:

1. I love doing them.
2. It is helping my overall strength.

Deadlift is like the grandaddy of all hip extensions, so expect the most growth from hams and glutes, with some spinal erectors.

Also I don't see how you can get big legs without a big ass

Well, just doing leg extension and leg curl :D I'd never do that though, I'm too gung-ho compound exercises.

I'm sure you know what you're doing casual, but I don't think your results are normal.

I don't think I'm normal. I'm incredibly lanky, and my levers suck. Like I could squat with a shoulder-width grip and have it be only 15% quads. For example, when I squatted for 3 months, my quads barely grew a quarter inch. But my ass added 1 full inch. And let me say, I don't have huge quads.

I guess my glutes are far and above my fastest growing bodypart -- when I'm doing stuff like full squats and SLDL. Is a butt too big when it clocks in at only a couple inches less than a chest measurement? I decided yeah, for now.

deads didn't do shit for my traps :(
but they did shit for my back thickness and overall width. comparing me what I looked like before heavy deads and now is like night and day ( I used to do SLD's, but they never did much for my back ).
