post-pregnancy training

Fantômas

New member
I'm going to be training a friend to lose some weight and get in shape after she has her baby, but she intends to breast feed. I have never had any kids myself, so I don't know what's a safe/appropriate amount of fat loss to aim for right away. Is it a concern at all? Are there any special considerations I need to take into account?

i'm begining the stages of post pregnancy training myself. any information on this subject would be great.

:worried: me too, My son is 3 months old now, and well i've lost about 30lbs or so, but i need to lose about 20lbs more, but between work, and Nursing, i just can't seem to shake it.

I'm no expect on pregnancy issues, having never been preg. :)

BUT, what I do know is that if she is breastfeeding, then her body will burn more calories naturally. Also, what she eats/doesn't eat will affect the baby. She'll have to make sure the baby is getting all the necessary vitamins/minerals, etc. I don't think that while breastfeeding is a time to go on a low-cal restrictive cutting diet. JMHO.

Working out should be fine, AS LONG AS HER DOC HAS OKAY'ed IT. Keep in mind that lactic acid in the body can affect the taste of milk. She might find that the baby might not like feeding right after a workout because of this. SHe needs top listen to her body, work as hard/easy as she feels necessary.

After I had my 2nd and started training I'd have to pump and dump my milk after a work out as he did not like the taste of my milk. She will have to increase her calorie intake as well as vitamins are REALLY important. Make sure she is taking her pre-natal vitamin while breastfeeding. As Daisy_Girl said do not do a low-cal restrictive diet right now, just make sure the foods she is eating are high vitamin high nutrishional value foods. Also she should NOT start training again until she has stopped her post partum bleeding and had her post partum check up. This is what my OB/GYN has told me and several of my friends.
