well I'm interesting in powerlifting, I'm a newbie to it. I just got a spark of interest when i started doing deadlifts 2 days ago and did very well. I wouldn't mind doing this and seeing where it takes me. Maybe in a few months i'll compete. right now my stats are something like this

bench: 230 (yeah i know it's weak i have long arms)
squat: has to be over 400 I never tried the 1 rep max
deadlifts: I did 495 two days ago which im syked about

I know i have a lot to work on but I assume since i started using my legs and did deadlifts for the first time im gonna get solid gains in the next few months

I'm around 184-187lbs im 19 ecto-meso or meso

I think im gonna do the ed coan program in a few weeks and see where it goes think that's any good

Go check out the "getting big is easy" post. I posted it and the guy who wrote it is a great guy. He knows what he is taking about. PowerlifterJay was my reference for it and he is also a wealth of knowledge. Just read his posts and you will see what I mean. Later.

Not bad numbers at all,

Unless you also happen to be Ed Coan, I would not suggest doing the Ed Coan workout. Lest you think the wrong thing, I truly believe that Ed walks on water with 1031 lbs on his back. But I would still recommend shying away from his program.

Most of the serious lifters on this forum use the Westside program, and I can say after using many different programs, that there is no comparison. Go Westside!! Read every article that Louies Simmons or Dave Tate ever wrote. You can find most of them at elitefts.com. Good luck.

dont want this to sound like a diss.

but first off you say only ed coans work out will work for ed coan......then you recommend that everyone does westside.

west side doesnt work for absolutly everybody.

someone might receive better gains from a different program.

there is a lot of science behind westside and its a very very solid program that has worked wonders for thousands.........but whos to say that it will work for this guy?

read a few interviews on deepsquater and you will see most of these guys say 3x3 is the way to go......

i myself believe very much in the westside way.....but dont recommend it for everyone

Thanks for the input,

Did not take it as a diss,

I will definately agree that there are many ways of getting strong.

My recommendation that he use westside is based on my own experiences. I tried for years to get stronger in the squat, bench, etc., by just doing those movements, and gradually increasing the weight, and it just doesn't work for more than 3 or 4 weeks at a time for me or anyone I know. Then you have to back off and take another run at it.

My westside experience has been that I never get into the above scenario because the exercises are changed every 2 weeks. I think that the dude was asking for people's opinions, and I posted mine. You don't have to agree with me, this would be a very boring discussion board if everytime someone posted, everyone else just said "I agree fellow".

guys.......

i have said that there is a good way, a better way, and a best way

life is too short to mess with anything else than the best way...... my time is valuable.

i dont know everything or claim too......... but at this stage in my life i see .......... not neccesarily westides program........ but its idea and reasoning to be the best.

its the only program i know of where the lifter can get an ego boost ever week by reaching a new personal record....... or where instint can take over and the lifter can change or adapt to what he seems to be the best way........

westside is about never stoping and what works..... but always looking for what works better.......... hence the discover of chains and bands.

its not just a program.... its and ever evolving living breathing dragon designed to unleash your greatest potential.

just my opinion.
