Hi all.

I just came back from my doctor. good news/ bad news. My acl is partially torn, not completely which was what the dr. thought. Anyway, he said it can easily be torn completely, and that is when I will have to have surgery.

I am doing rehab 3x a week, strengthing the guads, doing leg exts, leg press, etc. 45 lbs.

My question for you all is: can anyone give me some reccommendations on CARDIO !!!! I used to do & love kickboxing, obviously that is OUT!!! and high-impact step aerobics is out too.

I am not one to sit on a bike, or a treadmill, I hate it, and find it sooo boring.

Kickboxing, aerobics, was all I did, and now I can't do either. I don't belong to a gym, so my cardio comes from dvd's and working out in the garage aka- (home gym ).

The dr. did reccommend boot camp style cardio, and something called urban rebounding, where you do typical aerobic moves, but do it on a trampoline.

Has anyone heard of these 2 styles of cardio, do ther work ? will they burn cals ?

Thanks. any help will be much appreciated !!!!!

Any type of constant movement that gets your heartrate up over a period of time will work. Obviously do what you like to do but doesn't aggravate your situation.

Be careful...

I blew my ACL to nothing when I was 13. I was playing football in the 9th grade and spun off someone and POP. I did a month of rehab and had full strength and full mobility back on it. I then had surgery and was playing baseball in about 4.5 months.

I guess my advice is don't do anything stupid and actual blow the sucker all for the sake of some cardio. I would get on the bike and wait until my knee was 100% before I started going nuts. Crank the resistance up on the bike and it will kick your ass.

Listen to this - it is good advice.

Don't be stupid with your health. You will regret it later.

Recum bike...thats about it

stay on a strict diet and you will be fine

The bike, tread, eliptical, hell even running outside are all good solutions. The ACL gets into trouble when you plant and turn, or decelerate. I think that a trampoline would be a terrible idea as there is alot of opporunity for that knee to twist!

You are looking basicaly for non-impact cardio -- recum bike is a good bet. Everything else requires being up and moving with a chance of going off balance, twisting, and general bouncing. Focus more on diet & dont' get too hung up on cardio. Your body is going to need its energy reserves to heal more than to burn fat. Just watch about introducing more fat.

When I injured my acl it wasn't a tear just a strain, but a remember using swimming to get my fitness back. I found anything which involved bending the knee significantly was agony for several months.Swimming crawl kicking from the hip (which is correct form) helped me keep fit with minimal aggravation and stress to the acl.from there I moved onto jogging a little and cycling.as far as weights were concerned I started with the old inner/outer thigh lifts with resistance then moved through leg extensions to build strength around the knee cap the then started leg pressing when I could bend my leg fully without pain.it was slow and painful but I got there.I still get that familiar ache behind my knee cap though if I have been training or working very hard even 10 years on.
