Hi guys,

Since I'm a vegetarian and a HUGE fruit addict, I have to rely on zero-carb protein chips, drinks, bars for a lot of my protein.

I'm sure most of them are loaded with MSG (I think it masquerades as "sodium casseinate" and various other casseinates).

There is so much controversy about MSG. I don't what to make of it. My diet is very high in it, is all I know for sure. Do you guys have any ideas?

Carrots and mushrooms have the greatest amounts of monosodium glutamate than other vegetables. If you are worried about it's being in your diet, you may want to lower your intake of these choices. MSG is used to enhance the flavor of many foods like vegetables, canned foods, meats, and spaghetti sauces. As to its long term effects, I don't believe their is much research on it at present, but I have not really researched it much. Diamond was correct that chinese food contains a lot of this flavor enhancer so you may want to limit this choice of food as well, or ask the store if whether or not they add it to their foods. Also, to go along with the carrots and mushrooms, the fresher the vege's are, the higher the concentration of MSG within them, which may be why "just-picked" vege's have the best flavor.
