low carb question...

i absolutely love chinese food and realize that its not ideal
for someone on a low carb diet... but how about the following...

steamed chicken with broccolli - - this should be good as its low carb...

what about soup? Egg Drop soup at first glance seems good but i believe that it has a lot of corn starch in it making it HIGH carb...

but what about wonton soup... without eating the wontons...? just the broth...?

Hey cozmo - I'm no diet expert, but I can't believe that the wonton broth will have a lot of carbs if any. Only thing I'd worry about there is the sodium, and that's more of a problem for some people than others.

As for your chicken and brocolli, assuming it is steamed from fresh, according to Fitday.com, a cup will run you almost 8 grams of carbs. That kinda surprised me. I knew the dark green vegs had carbs, but I didn't know it was that many.

hey gym, when i brought up info on broccoli (raw), it says 1 cup = 4.64gms carb... 2.5 from fiber...hmmm?
anyway, agree w/ you on the sodium... probably high in chinese dishes, especialy broth

Yeah, I saw the info on the "raw" option. The one I chose though was the fresh, "fat not added in cooking" option. I figured that would be the closest to the steamed chicken with broccoli dish that cozmo mentioned. Not real sure why there's such a big difference.

Hey Cozmo, subtract the amount of dietary fiber from the amount of the carbs. Your body does process dietary fiber. Hope this helps.

If you do not care about the oils they put in the food then chinese food is ok in low carb dieting as long as there iss no batter, rice, breadcrumbs, honey or sweeteners involved.

Not all chinese food is high in carbs. Stick with the meats like sweet and sour siamese, chiwawa wontons and poodle soup. High in protein and Yummy too!
