Lateral Raises- Together or one at a time???????

Ok, we all know that laterals are a must for fully developed shoulders. We also know that there is a tendency to swing when going heavy together. So does it pay tp hold on to say, a cage with one arm and do " concentration laterals" . Just trying to get some advice from you guys w/ immense shoulders.

I've done them both ways. Both ways suck. :)

Seriously, the only thing I noticed with the unilateral raises was that I couldn't do as much weight because I wasn't counterbalanced. It was harder to keep form. I do mine with my arms at 90 degrees, too, so that my affect it.

I am currently doing them unilateral leaning somewhat away from the cage. warmup w/ 25's and go up to 50's. Then I do them on an incline bench leaning to one side and really isolating. Impossible to swing in this position. Feels pretty good, just dont know if its any better than doing them together.

I do my laterals seated, I find this works much better for me. I also do them together untill I hit failure, at that point I do them one at a time and can squeeze out about 4 more reps on each side.

I use both arms, I don't like the lack of balance. Are lateral raises really necessary? Well I'm only doing them because I can't do upright rows anymore, I gained more from upright rows =/.

Raises are great if you do them right... So few people do them right though, at the top you should turn your hands in like you are pouring a drink into two imaginary cups ar ear level also hand should ever be above elbows eccept possibly at the very peak when you turn your palms in. Also a very slight bounce at the top is ok because it can eliminate some of the traps from the movement

I really feel the seated lateral raises...in the beginning I did both side but now I started to do one sided....once at the time works better for me

I do them seated - I find it much harder but you use your arms only. I find when I do them standing I swing my back.

One of the most comman missconceptions of lateral raises is the turn in at the end. This causes more shoulder problems than anything it impinges the supraspinatis tendon under the acromian process hence causing (RTC) rotator cuff problems.

The reason why people thinkthey work better is because you get a better burn. the better burn is from you RTC doing the internal rotation. the deltoid does little if any internal rotation.
