Is there anything more protein packed and convenient than a can of tuna?

Tuna
Pro - cheap, all protein, fish is healthy

Con - strong smell, taste (after my 4th can of the day, it's pretty bad), requires a can opener and draining.

Is there another food that is as cheap and protein packed as tuna but without so many cons?

I go to a buthcher every once in awhile who makes beef jerky hinself from quality cuts of meat. It is higher in sodium than the regular meat, but probably comparable to tuna. I only eat that once in a while though.

There's a canned meat from Italy that I used to eat all the time. It's called simmenthal, it has more protein and less sodium per serving than tuna-- a little lemon and black pepper and your in heaven. It was a God send! Haven't had it in months, they can't import it cause of the madcow shit going on there!

It's been back to tuna!

Hey Bro,

I think they came out with this just for you. I just saw the commercial and thought this is for those people you can't use a can opener.....

Starkist Pouch Tuna

I have considered that but don't know how much they cost. I'd imagine a lot more than the can.

Oh yeah. Fuck you. :D

I get them for a buck a bag at Albertsons. They are pretty good, definately taste better than the canned tuna. I get the albacore and it has 23 grams of protein per serving.

they call me felix the cat at work

because ill go through 3-4 cans at work. its so easy and conveneint. i dont chew it though i just take a scoop and wash it down with water. its not enjoyable but it works and its cheap. 60 cans at sams club costs me 24 buks!

White chicken in a can. You still have to drain it, but it does taste a little better. I alternate between canned chicken/tuna :)

stop draining the tuna, just open can and eat with a fork, tastes quite a bit better when it's wet from the water.

I also flavor it with NO-SALT (potasium)

after 4 years eating 2-3 cans of tuna a day (in addition to MRPs, meals and other) I can safely say that there is no cheaper source of quality protein so conviently packed and so DISGUSTING as tuna.

Um, I used to eat about 3, sometimes 4 cans of tuna a day for years until out of the fucking blue I started getting strange phobias and anxiety. In the middle of this shit, I read in the paper that the way the FDA tests mercury toxicity in tuna sucks ass and that there's plenty of reason to believe you can get mercury poisoning from todays tuna if you eat enough of it. I checked out the symptoms of mercury poisoning and it was a dead ringer. I stopped eating tuna entirely, started taking plenty of vitamin E and now, several months later, I'm cured. I'm convinced I had chronic mercury poisoning from unreasonably high tuna consumption.

food that werent mentioned that I eat for high protien low fat: Bocu burger, i sometimes microwave one of these chop it up and throw it in with my egg whites for an omplete Im not 100% of hand since their are different kinds but i think they are 16g of protien each and they are small and taste decent, when on bulking phase I would sometimes make 3 at once stack them on top of each other and eat fast as possible, also put them on the gergoe forman grill taste better i feel. another thing is the Healthy choice hot dogs they are small very low in fat high in protien, also fat free chicken pattys... my friend hates egg whites but realizes they are esential food for protien, he boils 8-12 eggs, and swallws half an egg white at a time with some of that 0 calorie ice tea mix cannot think of name off hand, also for anyone eating butter try I cannot beleive its not butter spray/ or those fat free 0 cal squeeze bottles, also nutrasweet/splenda is a good alternative to suger i put it on cerial occionally.... if anyone can add to these eating tips please do so..

yup i only use tuna as a last resort cause of mercury never over 2 cans a day for a week max usually no more that 4 cans a week

Is there any fact to this?!? I eat at least 3-4 cans a day....cuz it's cheap as hell and easy and i'm in college....

put a little BBQ sause on your tuna and it'll get rid of the rotten smell and have a little of a rib taste to it.:p

everything i read stated risk for children and women and pregnant women especially

BUT!!!

none mentioned bodybuilders eating 30 cans a week so you take your chances.

my advice is vary your protein

i can get boneless skinless chicken breast for 1.99$ a lb often(sale)

well done lean hamburger grilled or formaned (reduces the fat)

lean steak

powdered protein

etc etc

Fuck if your pumpin your body full of drugs to get big then I don't think tuna or its mercury poisoning should be a major concern.

Get your priorities straight.

I read an article once on protein content of various meats. Obviously fishes(certain types), chicken, turkey all came near the top. According to this article the meat with most protein per standard weight measurement was human flesh!

So next time you see that big guy at the gym, invite him round for Christmas dinner and soon YOU will be the big guy! :goatslaye

(Turkey rated higher than chicken)

I heard somewhere Buffalo meat just regulates on other types of meats, but it'd be hard as hell to find on a local level for most. You might be able to order it over the net or something though.

Tuna sucks.

It's almost worth paying the extra for the chicken. I love chicken.

I'm going to look for canned chicken and/or canned turkey. Buffalo is a great lean beef but it is hard to find and it's rather expensive.

Fro -- buy the tuna with the flip-tab lids that pull off; that solves the can opener. Four cans/day would suck -- you'll burn yourself out quick. It's max of one/day for me.

Hard-boiled eggs, jerky, pre-cooked beef pattys, cheese, cottage cheese, milk, peanuts, canned salmon (better Omega3s than tuna), channed chicken, yogurt, couple scoops of peanut butter, pepperoni -- there are a lot of alternatives...

acneman makes a good point - vary your protein intake. It's better to get protein derived from multiple sources rather than from one source. Who knows if there is a health concern with your one source of protein? Or else, maybe that source isn't as effective as others. There are so many variables involved with food and human metabolism and given the availability of so many different foods, it seems ludicrous to rely on one or two sources.

Athlete03: did you experience any peripheral neuropathy from the mercury poisoning? i.e. tingling/numbness/loss of sensation in the extremities?

I can't stand cottage cheese it makes me want to

...that was until I tried cottage cheese w/Pineapple. WOW :eek2: that stuff is actually good! Now I'm hooked on it. Eat two tubs a day (total of 8 servings).

i used to eat mega cans of tuna until I finally read the label and saw how much sodium I was consuming, how do you spell BLOAT!

I eat alot of hard boiled eggs. You can just toss out the yolks if you're watching your fat intake. Be prepared for some rank gas though. Not a good protein source before a blind date!!:D

No I did not. Just relatively mild psychiatric disturbances that I have no history of and were strongly correlated with my tuna (mercury) intake.

Try this

One can of tuna with Muenster cheese.

Micro wave it 2.5 minutes

Take Miracle whip and mix with Tabasco sauce add that,

30 grams of protein, zero carbs and taste great.

Dude you gotta try Gortons grilled fillets. Its grilled fish, excellent taste, 17 grams of protein per fillet, and cheap.

sick of tuna myself, I need a break from it.

Hard to beat tuna in terms of price, protein, and easy to make tasty.

If u need something easy then Super Plasma Protein from protein factory. Its like 5 g per teaspoon and mixes into anything like other powders. I think a reg whey protein scoop is like 15 teaspoons so pretty concentrated stuff.

Tally another vote for hardboiled eggs

How about cooking something yourself? You can't be THAT busy, bro... Brown some ground beef/turkey. Drain it well and it's not that fatty.

Careful eating that much or too much tuna. Mercury poisoning or ingesting high levels or mercury is a very real problem and can be detrimental to your health and brain.

You know chewing happens to be a very important part of the digestive process

Con- high in mercury

Try sardines packed in olive oil, a little more expensive but high protein and omega 3 and low mercury. Canned salmon is also good. The farm raised stuff is pretty cheap

you could use the better protien bars and add in extra protien powder for a mega dose of protien thats easy to eat
