Showing concern for someones weight can be a very touchy subject. I always cringe when there is a guy on a talk show saying his wife needs to lose weight. You always here the lady saying that it hurts her when he says anything about her weight, even though the problem is obvious.
I have tried helping my mother with diet and exercise. The only nice way to put it is that I want her around when I have her grandbabies. If I were you, I would use the health concern approach. Explain to her that you love her no matter what she looks like, for sickness and in health. You don't want it to be her health that keeps you from spending a beatuful life togather.
I agree with what Sassy said about the Body for Life book. My friend's aunt and uncle were on it and loved it. It puts everything in perspective and lays it out in a simple approach. Once you get into the swing of things it becomes second nature. It definately makes it easy for long term sucess. Both of them had lost over 60 lbs on the plan. I read through the book to get an idea of what it was about. Philips does a good job of motivating people. It felt cool being able to talk to people that had gotten bit by the fitness bug. The last I had seen them they looked great and would never thought they could have done it. Their personalties had changed they were much happier and in a good mood in general.
I wish you the best of luck, I hope you find the balance of being concerned and being shallow.
