How many of you perform a lot of 'forced reps'?

Freak Show

Every once in a while I'll have my spotter help me with a few forced reps. However, I have some friends who use them all the time for just about every exercise. I've read (Ian King & Poliquin) that forced reps are used too frequently. However, with some of my friends I've noticed that despite using forced reps and not having trained as long as me, they are incredibly strong. Yeah, I know: genetics, but I've seen these guys' families and they hardly look like genetic freaks. How often do you use them and what's your rationale behind it? Thanks.

I use them on ocasion, I feel they are more beneficial for strength then, hypertrophy. It kind of allows your body to handle more weight then it could on it's own. Situations like this tend to help to thicken the tendons which will allow the body to handle more weight. In essence it is an overload technique, similar to partials.

I don't use them. I don't think it's ever been proven that forced reps do much. Maybe the negative on the way down would be beneficial.

I use them about 3 times a week- whenever my partner comes with me- i feel its VERY beneficial- you will never get the intensity from forced reps on your own- especially on the bench press....

I do forced reps and supersets all the time.
example: weighted chins (45lb) for 8-10 reps drop the weight and do chinups with bodyweight to failure, and then jump in a cable pulldown machine and crank out 6 or so reps (strict).

since I don't always have a workout partner I usually do drop sets. I know that forced reps have played a big part in my success in bodybuilding. You don't want to do them on every set of course just throw them in if you have some extra energy.
