I hear you. I used to try my hardest to bulk and end up with only 2300-2700 cal./day. Now somedays I end up with over 5000 and don't realize it till I add it all up.
Also, some people say you don't need to bulk to gain mass. But, I've found that usually people that say this tend to be mesomorph or endomorphs. I've got one buddy that used to tell me this all the time (a naturally stocky guy). Meanwhile, his mom would serve these 10 course meals every night and keep the cabinets stocked full of cereal bars, hot pockets, and just about any other "grab and go" high calorie snack you can think of. He had to be putting in atleast 3500-4200 cal/day most of his life.
